What year was sn prefix BSF? I can't seem to find it in scsw. Thanks

Can't say for sure.
It says BRF was August of '94 and CAM was January of '96, so I assume it's between those two.

You can't always go by that, unfortunately. I used to own a 442-2 with a DAH s/n, made in 2006. I recently bought another 442-2 with a CTY s/n, and figured it was a bit older than the first one. Nope: box label & fired case envelope are dated march of this year.

From a much earlier post I read that the s/n# on S&W's, made in one batch, have little to do with their age. It seems that S&W manufactures the frames in sequential order and stores them in the same order. However, when the guns are assembled the newest frame is assembled and shipped first.
