Model 60 sight issue

Picked up a 3" 60 a month or so ago, when I tried to adjust the sights I found the sight was screwed all the way and jammed to the point where I had to use a bigger screwdrive to unjam it. Found out also that when i was adjusting elevation, there were no clicks, either felt or heard, as I was screwing the adjustment screw, and the adjustment didn't stay very well.
Contacted Smith, they told me they were sending me a new rear sight. That was almost a month ago. Does anyone have any idea about how long it might take them to get it to me? TIA.

That is the downside of adjustable sights on J Frames. New shooters do not realize that they are "flinching", so they keep on adjusting the adjustable sights until they break.

Fixed sights on J Frames and any snubnose revolvers for me.

Been shooting revolvers for quite a while, j frames included. Don't have the flinching problem. Adjustable or not, really doesn't make much of a difference to me.

The flinching comment was regarding the previous owner. You had mentioned that the sight was cranked all the way.

I have looked at revolvers with adjustable sights in the Used Gun Section of my LGS. They always tend to be more abused than fixed sight revolvers. (but bubbas have filed down the front sight on fixed sight revolvers)

Got it about the flinch.
This model 60 was NIB out of a LGS. When I needed to run the sights up, it was cranked down into the frame that I couldn't move it with the little S&W screwdriver they used to supply. (Yes I still have a couple) I had to use my Leather man, with the blade at a ninety degreen to the leatherman handle just to break it loose. I got it adjusted, but in doing so I did not feel or hear (mostly feel) the detents. Thought I might use a little loctite when it was set, but in the event I get bold and brave and start sticking magnums in there I thought I would reach out to Smith. Got an email back within a couple of hours that said they would send me a new one. Sent them my shipping/mailing info, haven't heard a word in a little over 3 weeks. Sent an inquiry last week, no reply.
I was just trying to find if anyone had dealt with Smith sending parts to see what the typical time frame for delivery seems to be.

Hey, Rock, you might know. Is there a spring in under the sight (for elevation) or is the bar the sight is attached to that runs on the top strap the spring? And how does the screw detent work, is it a ball on a little spring? I have never taken one apart and the exploded view I have isn't much help. TIA again.

I've had zero issues with my target sighted Model 60's. I have an Ashland snub, a couple -4's, a couple -10's and a -14 with an NOS Ashland barrel installed (gun had been dropped on its front sight, so it was a perfect project). Also have a couple J frame 'mutts' I had my gunsmith add target sights to. Hopefully a new rear sight will fix your issues.

For sure it will. When I did get it zeroed it was right on the money at 10 yards. It stays with wadcutters, but if I shoot 130 grain target loads the screw moves a little. Anything hotter it will probably move more.
