anyone know of a scope base or front sight for the model 60 ? my wifes model 60 3 inch barrel has a black front blade that is very hard to see. would like to put on a night sight or a fiber optic in the front but s&w tells me you have to drill out the pin and replace it with a roll pin don't know it I want to go that route just yet any thoughts ?

I had Tooltech put a tritium lamp in the front sight blades of my Model 60s, works great.

I have both the 'standard' Model 60 3" and the Pro. The Model 60 Pro has a tritium front sight, there's at least one thread on here were the OP replaced the original black with the Pro blade.

I thought you drove the pin out, drilled the new blade (1/2 from each side) and then either reused the original pin or a replacement, which I believe comes with the sight blade.

I replaced the front sight on my 3" 60 by drilling out the new blade and using the old roll pin. It is a little tricky, but very doable. If you feel uncomfortable doing this, it would be easy work for a gunsmith.

If the front sight is pinned on the barrel, any gunsmith can replace the front sight blade with one to your preference. I had an XS Big Dot put in place of my front sight on my 60-9 and am very happy with it.

I picked up the Model 60-4 pictured here a few months ago. When purchased it was equipped with both the fiber optic front and Crimson Trace grips as pictured. I'm not certain of the manufacturer of the sight.

The fiber optic sight is definitely easy to pick up. The only issue I have found is that it will not fit in holsters I have tried that was cut for a standard front sight. I have an email in to Ray at Lobo Holsters to see what magic he can work.

I just bought a brand new Model 60-15. I also have a 60-11 which is .38 Special and the standard 2 inch. This new one is a 3 inch, .357 Mag. Good length for CC?

thanks guys I will probably have a gunsmith drill out the front sight and replace with new sight thanks all.

I'm not sure how old your Model 60 is, but my Model 60-14 had a roll pin from the factory.

It's not hard to knock it out, remove the old sight and install a new one.

The one shown below is on my SP101, but Meprolight makes the same model for the J-frame as well. $46 on Amazon.

You'll need a 1/16" punch to remove the pin. Lift out the old sight and insert the new one. You may need to hand fit it to the slot, but that's easily done with a file. Just take an even number of strokes off each side of the base of the sight until it fits snugly.

With the sight held in place with a clamp (padded appropriately) use the existing hole in the barrel as a guide to drill the matching hole in the sight base - it's soft and drills easily. Then insert the roll pin and you are done.

Nice BB57. I was just about to do mine. I have a 60 that I am going to put the meprolight on the front site. Doesn't look to tough. I heard that the XS sight (Trijicon) is pinned, but it is outside the rear site line(cant adjust rear enough to compensate) so I hear they are basically point and shoot. I think the lower profile is more the line for 3" mdl 60
