I recently came across a S&W I am having trouble finding information on. It is a model 60 357 5 shot stainless 3" barrel but has "small hunter" on the side plate, the serial # is CEY3865 and the product code on the box is 602432. It also has "AKAH" in front of the trigger, on the frame underneath the gun. I will try to post pictures but having trouble with my photo bucket account. I'm trying to determine value on it and how rare it is. Any help is appreciated.

Very interesting. It has what looks like foreign proof marks, so it had a European vacation at some point. "AKAH" stands for Albrecht Kind aus (from) Hunstig, a German importer.

Can you post a picture of the end label? You don't need to host your pics on another site. You can upload them directly to the forum. I'd like to see it before I make some more comments.

Also, what's the date on the fired case envelope?

It is an export-only model. I believe the AKAH stamp is a European importer; someone else here knows for sure. It may have been purchased overseas by a military service member and brought back here.

Sold as a used gun, perhaps a re-import by the factory. It is laser engraved "Small Hunter" because self defense is generally frowned upon across the pond. There is a mention of this gun in the Standard Catalog of S & W 3rd edition.

Ported too.

Missed the porting....... not a great fan..... I have a 3" 65 ported in the late 80s.........not much use with +P.38s (my most common carry in the 65 or my 60-10)...... too much flash a bang with .357s......

My 3" 60-10 has become my "21st Century Kit gun".......................................38 wad-cutters to .357s...... so "Small Hunter" has a ring to it!!!

As said above, probably purchased by a service member in Europe. Like the looks of it but not fond of porting. Porting a carry gun can be a mistake. So think about the purpose before the purchase. First round can ruin your night vision. Bought a S&W customized with ported barrel years ago. Fired it maybe half a dozen times. Shooting from the waist was very uncomfortable because of the blast and deafening sound. Shooting Cooper style would ruin your night vision. It became a safe queen.

A 60-10 3" good condition in box goes for around $900-1000 lately, I'd give it a collectibility bonus due the factory porting/euro only model. Probably somewhere in the $11-1200 range IMO but could be higher or lower depending on variable auction factors.

Got it, page 224 of the SCSW - Product Code 602432, Used Gun code with import marks. The original model PC was 102432, no dates of production given but the CEY prefix is from about September 2001. The fired case may be from the test after its return?

Feature Codes:

FL - Full Lug
SGB - Stainless Glass Bead finish
RB - Round Butt frame
AS - Adjustable Sights
PO - POrted barrel (Mag-Na-Port)

I agree with murphydog. It's likely unsold inventory returned from the European distributor. Might of never been shot. Could of been a salesman's sample, or a engineering approval model. Says "USED" on the label, which agrees with the Product Code beginning with a "6". Normally, a p.c. begins with a "1".

Pretty cool 5-shooter. Can't be many on this side of the pond. Less than 100? Though it's basically just a MP'd 102430, 3-inch M60-10 TARGET. Not many guns were actually Mag-Na-Ported by S&W. Most you see were done by the distributor before being sold.

A good friend and shooting buddy of mine found one just like it at a gunshow a few years ago and traded for it at a pretty favorable rate. He likes it a lot and shoots it well (as far as a small revolver goes.) I liked it enough to begin looking for one myself until Dale53 helped me fill the slot with a Model 60-4 like the one he has that works so well. I think that the little 3" adjustable sighted stainless 38 is one of the most versatile woods loafing and self defense CCW guns out there! JMHO-YMMV!
