SoCal land of stupid gun
I am interested in getting a 60Pro as a combo carry gun (when I move from the communist republic of California to a more gun friendly state) and bedside gun. I figure a 3inch would be perfect for that but id like feedback from people that own a model 60 on what they think of the gun.

I like mine just fine, thanks for asking! LOL!

It was my carry gun until I got into K frames recently. Very accurate, but it does have a little different sight picture because of the tritium dot in the front sight.

While I had to try some .357's in it just to see, I wouldn't recommend them for a steady diet. The recoil isn't bad at all with .38 special +p's.

If you get one, make sure to check all the screws occasionally, they have a tendency to loosen up. This would include the little screw that holds the sight assembly in place, as well as, the cylinder release screw.

Very good looking gun with the grips in my opinion. To big to be a pocket gun, so replacing the grips with say, a Hogue Monogrip that covers the backstrap makes it a great carry piece for holsters. Hope this helps!

I have big hands, with 357's 3 rounds had my trigger finger bleeding. Sold it.

I love mine, I have put thousands of 357 thru mine with no problems. The rear sight screw does come loose after shooting. I just tighten it up when I clean my gun afterwards. I can keep my shots on a paper plate at 50 yards with my arms laying on my bed rails of my pickup. I'm about 50/50 off hand.

I have a 60-15, non-Pro model, that shoots great and is more accurate than I am. Have only put .38 and .38+P through it with no problems whatsoever. Carried comfortably all summer in a Milt Sparks VMII. I think that the non-Pro version may be more "practical" than the Pro whose embellishments seem to be more cosmetic than functional....My $0.02

I was wanting one until I saw that it has adjustable sights. I never buy a gun for self protection that has adjustable sights. I bought a model 637, and plan on buying a model 60 with the short barrel. Both have fixed sights.

I'm the opposite. I'd much rather have adjustable sights on anything. I'm not the biggest Elmer Keith fan, but that one of the thing I agreed with him on.

I like mine. I have Crimson Trace LG350 grips on it and I have no problems shooting .357 mags at all. Went through a box just a few minutes ago. Nice gun but don't get too wound up in the moonclip or night sight thing. I bought it because I got a Black Friday deal and loved the fluted barrel.
BTW, I also have another 640 with lock that has a better trigger. No knock on either gun. Just lying on a table one looks like Mary Ann and the other, Ginger. You pick. Please exclude the 340PD in the pic. She is a range ball in a sleeve of Pro V1's but she shoots like Farrah Fawcett.

I like fixed sights better too, I also bought the 60-14. I really wish Smith would make a 3" 60 with fixed sights. That would be the perfect carry gun for me.

The intention of the gun is for primarily a bedside gun as I think revolvers are better suited for that and once I move to TX a occasional carry gun either open carry or CCW than lastly as a fun range gun so adjustable sights are fine and actually wanted. My primary carry gun will be a 340DP and a Khar PM9

The "Pro" version isn't that much more expensive so thats why I'm leaning towards it.

Some very "sabe hombres" on this thread, that's for sure. To repeat what I just wrote on a similar thread, my LGS has had one of these 3" AS 60s for over 6 months. Lovely gun, but I can't see myself buying it , J-hound that I am! Seems to be an item that will appeal to one specific person, and nobody else.

The 60 in the LGS is beautifully made, but it is metal and round while most folks want plastic and square these days. Would be a nice gun to have.

We are brothers from a different mother. I too carry my 340PD or PM9. Their triggers are very similar and that makes it easy for alternate carry.

It feels fine with full-spec Underwoods to me, but that may be because for years my primary carry was a 360sc 11oz .357 snubby ... after that, anything feels good. I also always use (for everything) a very relaxed grip and very relaxed/flexed joints ... that soaks up a lot of recoil.

I second the recommendation for Hogue Monogrips.

I didn't mind shooting full house .357's out of mine either with the Hogue Monogrip.

I get your point about shooting the Model 60 after shooting the 360. But, your hands may have nerve damage! LOL! (Just kidding).

The reason I don't recommend shooting .357's alot is more due to potentially getting the 2nd shot off in a defensive situation. For me the recoil caused me to be off target for a followup. The OP was posting about carrying the 60. I was just sharing my experience!

if you are referring to the 60 Pro Series with the 3 inch bbl, it is an amazing firearm. My smallish wife shoots 357 mags with no problem. I tested that gun and it seems there is not much felt recoil difference between standard 38 Special loads and full house 357 loads. A great gun.

Somebody needs to stop watching daytime reruns ;)

to OP:

I vote get a dedicated carry gun, and get a dedicated house gun.

you might be happier with a light centennial, and a 44 at the bedside, just musing

The reason I don't recommend shooting .357's a lot is more due to potentially getting the 2nd shot off in a defensive situation. For me the recoil caused me to be off target for a followup.

I can understand how that can be a factor for a lot of people, but I only shoot all of my revolvers in SA mode, and with the cocking time added in, the high muzzle-rise doesn't add much to the follow-up time ... i.e., I'm slow no matter what. I try to compensate for that by shooting very powerful guns, very accurately, so that I'll likely need very few shots ... when you've only got 5 shots total (before a fairly slow reload), you don't want to spend them too fast.
