I recently saw a model 61 for sale the serial # B48XX. I was told by the seller that this was an early model 61 prior to the dash1. Does this add any extra value to the firearm?

Not an expert, but I doubt it. Model 61’s are cool little guns, get little respect, and even less money.

Model 61’s don’t bring much around here. The dash 1 was the addition of a magazine safety. The SCSW says many early 61’s were returned for repairs and the factory took new guns and put the same serial number one them for return. Sounds like the factory knew they were “less then desirable”.

No claim to be an expert so a personal opinion only: The Pistol you are describing may be a collector candidate if new with box & goodies but if you want a dependable shooter I am told you should look for a M-61-3 which is reported to be the most dependable of all the offerings.
