I just bought a model 617 22 LR revolver full under lug with factory Lew Horton combat grips. 1989 I believe.

It is as new un fired in the box. The serial number on the gun is 6406 the number on the box is 4606

I assume this was a factory goof being transcribed. Hard to believe in this day and age it would happen. I don't care but do you think this will hurt value, increase value or no difference?

Not an answer to your question but as to making mistakes, I once saw a gun that the number on the factory box and the number on the accompanying invoice both differed from the gun and each other. That's why I always go with number on the gun and not the paperwork. Mistakes do happen.
ETA:
Should have no effect on gun value, IMO.

Sounds like your 617 is a no dash which I believe is a forum rule that requires pics... ;)

Stuff happens!

I once got a call from a Sacramento DA asking if I ever owned a 40-foot flatbed trailer. UH no!
It seems that when I purchased a S&W M60 from a tax lien sale that the FFL registered the firearm's assembly number! The number showed up as a 40 foot flat bed trailer that had been stolen in the stolen property data base, somehow?? :)

"Stuff happens" way too often!

Did someone request photos of no-dash Model 617s? Mine were purchased new way back when. I put Millett rear sights on both and a target hammer and trigger in the four-inch (color-casehardened as I couldn't find flash-chromed parts for rimfires). Neither one has been shot in at least five years - I shoot my Model 41 and my wife's Model 22A-1 these days as my aging eyes require an optical sight and I don't want to deface those Model 617s with a dot optic.

Very nice AE. I would not molest them either. A 4" may be in my future. I have always been attracted to them
