Model 627- anyone like 'em ?

I really like mine, here it is with "The Plug" installed and some grips I salvaged from a junk pile.

Same gun and my plug is on order as we speak. How was the install? Did you use his supplied video link in his thread or did you just dive in? Was wondering if its basically all the same whether an exposed hammer is present or not.

OP, I LOVE my 627 2-5/8" snubbie. It is dead accurate, has a great trigger, carries well, and darn good lookin to boot. I opted for the Ahrends tactical finger groove grips and they are perfect. Pinky onboard and a bit more palm swell makes for the perfect shooter. Dang this thing is accurate!!! Wasn't too bad to shoot with the factory eagle grips either...not optimal, but not bad either.

Some gun leather for it: Lobo Gun Leather enhanced pancake and Lobo Gun Leather modified Tom Threepersons.

I only have one, so far. The 627 Pro is a great shooter. I just qualified again with it, for this year. This gun is amazingly easy to shoot fast and accurate. I love showing the semi auto guys what a good revolver can do. Using the 5 star speed loaders, and shooting 8 rounds, it's a high-speed tactical round gun...... :)

I am probably one of the few people that doesn't like the 627. Mine is a 627 V Comp PC with 3" barrel. I bought it online without ever actually handling one. Thought it would be the ultimate all purpose revolver. Found it to be too big and heavy for me. Had the action tuned by S&W and installed Wolf springs. Never even fired the gun.

I'm a little confused. Did you somehow expect a steel N-frame revolver to be small and light?

Not light, but less bulky. I'll stick with the L fame 686.

Ahh.......well, as you discovered, N-frames are BIG.

Never owned an L-frame, but those full-lug models sure are handsome! :)

I've never owned an L-frame either. Folks say I don't know what I'm missing. Python is close as I've come to an L frame. I'm fine with the J's, K's, and N's. For me, I don't see a need for an L.

627-0

I have a 627-0 5 1/2 inch model of 1989 with German markings. It is one of those "If I could only have one" guns. Flapjack.

A 627 would be an "N" frame, but it may be the handiest revolver I own. With the round butt, and shorter full lug barrel, it really handles nice. Goldilocks would approve!

Jamesmhebert,

Below is my 4" 627 Pro in my favorite grips - Ahrends Retro Targets in cocobolo. Great handfit & feel - excellent pointability, if somewhat 'fidgety' to get the right hold. Good with minor recoils - like +P 158gr LHPSWC - I never shoot 'real' Magnums.

Also, note the 625JM - my previous SPC revolver. It's Miculek grip makes it a 'fast & non-fidgety' grab - so I now have such a grip on my 627 Pro. Both are great fits to my medium+ sized hands. I just don't like Hogue rubber monogrips - like the 627 Pro's OEM grip - I have a drawer full of them now. I do like the made-for-S&W Hogue X-frame .500 Magnum rubber monogrips - great recoil aid as they pad the backstrap. I keep them on my 629s and Governor - they need some recoil assistance.
