Doesn't appear to be the factory contour on the barrel at the frame junction or in the forward area of the ejector shroud. But then that scope mount is way over anything I have even seen to. Lot of metal there. Probably really cuts down on recoil and the scope mount sure isn't going anywhere. I have 2 629-1 and neither look like that. BTW I have a 6" and a 8 3/8" barrel in my parts pile if it really bothers you. I removed them from mine. One I replaced with a 4" barrel ant the other got a 5" 45 barrel and the cylinder reamed to 45 colt

That bevel is to match the flat on front of the shroud on the other side, called old world "panache".
They vary a bit over time and was a short cut/time saver from the original as seen on my triple lock below. However that one you show is more extreme than any I have seen; maybe re-done if a re-polished gun, or a Monday or Friday at the factory.

The real purpose of the scope mount!
The red dot is for low light deep woods use out too 50 Yds and the see-thru mount allows the use of the #3 & #4 step of the front sight out to 150 & 200yds!
