Folks, we are in the middle of a move from California to Washington, so all my reference books are packed away.

Please, what is the last dash in the 629 series BEFORE the lock was introduced? Will that series have MIM parts? If so, what is the last dash before MIM was introduced, please?

I have an opportunity to pick up a pre-lock and minty 629, but I want to know what I am looking at in regards to the above questions. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

First, welcome to the semi free state of Washington

I don't have my references in front of me either but was just reading about 629's last night. If I remember what I was reading correctly the -6 went to MIM and frame mounted firing pin and -8 went to lock.

629-4 .. no lock, no MIM, hammer-mounted firing pin.

629-5 .. no lock, MIM parts, frame-mounted firing pin. This was the last model offered before introduction of the 'lock'.

I can't tell the difference when shooting the two models. Both are excellent shooters.

Welcome to WA!

Jim

I'm sure glad you guys came along with the right info. I guess I should not depend on my memory and stick to published data

Thanks guys!

This one is a 629-5 (I got a look at it after posting). Very clean, shot little. 4" barrel, Hogue rubber grips.

He is asking 600 bucks

I think 6 is a bit high. Does it have box and all documents? Is 6 OTD?
I have had a 4" -6 for sale at 525 shipped for 3 weeks with all papers, This is NOT a plug, Just an example.
I picked up a 3" 629-2 3 weeks ago for 429.
I would pass.

Tell him you'll do the state of Kalifornia a big favor and take it out of state for $550. That's the going price in N.E. Wa. for a 629 Classic 5 incher and they seem to be a little harder to find. Welcome to Wa. Where (roughly) are you gonna live?

Gentlemen, please keep in mind that values are quite disparate in differing areas of the country.

A no-lock .44Mag in this area still brings a premium...and around here, that revolver for $600 is a bargain.
