I've had a M-63 in the 4" and 5" versions. Just got the 3" version a few weeks ago and love it.
The 3" is quite variable on accuracy with various loads (As are most .22's) Worst would be in the 4-plus inch range for 8 shots (a full cylinder) to a great 1 3/4" 8-shot group with CCI subsonic fired benched at 25 yds.
As a side note, the DA trigger on this gun came as a tad on the heavy side. I clipped 2 coils off to reduce the pull, using a Dremel cutting wheel. Well, I didn't realize I had inadvertantly cut half way through a 3rd coil, so I had to take it down to "Minus 3" and hope for the best. Greatly improved the DA pull - and works 100%. Whew!
To the point - if I had a choice of a 4" 617 and a M-63 in and barrel length... as much as I like my 63 I'd choose the 617 10-shot. A friend of mine has one - I've shot it, and as an "All around" gun for many tasks It'd be my pick.
