I just got a brand new S&w model 63 from a local dealer. I have been waiting for a long time to get one. My question is, why does this one has a blade front sight? It doesn't have the fiber optic that it should have. Yes, this is the latest production model with the 3" barrel and 8 rounds. Has anybody else seen this?
Thanks

S&w 63

I called S&w and they are going to send me the fiber optic front sight and pin for free. I guess it's a win win. I can try the blade sight and if I don't like it I can change it. Thanks for the replies.

So maybe I'll call them and ask them for the reverse... and red insert front sight!!! Yea!

Sounds like someone changed it. Did the dealer actually sell this gun as new? Did it come with correct box and papers? Does box label confirm this sight? What about matching serial number on the box and gun? Have you checked the product number on the label with S&W?

Get a nice pair of wood grips from Smith & Wesson, Hogue or Atamont for Sunday wear.

Here's my 63 with an Altamont grip. It has the red fiber sight, I prefer black Patridge sights on all my revolvers but I don't really use this revolver much. Allchin makes a dot mount for it and I thought it might be fun to put on a reflex sight.

I recently got a 63-5 on a trade. Actually was going to use it as bait on another trade but it fell through. It shoots decent but I have only shot 24rds at random rocks in a creek. The fiber optic front takes away accurate shooting, period. There aren't many contenders with lousier sight picture. The rubber grips are another downer for me. I can find no fault with function. If I were keeping it the fiber optics would have to go. Bottom line is it will be happier somewheres else.
