model 63

does anybody own a model 63?
if so, how do you like it?
my carry gun is a model 60 3in, so I was thinking if I got a model 63 then I would already have a few holsters that should work. plus I have been wanting something cheaper to shoot

I have a S&W 63 with a 4" barrel. I like it a bunch. I used to have a K22 which I thought was way too large and heavy for a .22 handgun.

I take it you are referring to the newer model 63-5 3" 8 shot with a fiber optic front sight. It is usually in the range bag each time I go shooting. Very nice shooting small 22 and I like the front sight which took a few rounds for my eyes to adjust to it. I believe , if by chance you can find one at a reasonable price, you won't be disappointed.

63's 651's 631's are great carry guns nice small to carry great plinkers i wish S&W made more kit guns some of my favorite Smith's are J frame kit guns

I just got mine about 2 weeks ago, have only shot it once. I didn't care for the trigger, so I'm going to install an Apex trigger kit. If I have any light primer strikes I'll replace the original parts until it stops. I figure since it's strictly a range gun it's not such a big deal if I have some misfires while getting the trigger nicer.

I'm very happy I found this gun and expect to love it once I get it situated 'just so'.

Love both my 5" 63-4 and my 3" 63-5. However the 5" one gets shot more than all my other 22's combined. If I do my job with a good rest the 63 will do it out to 30 yards. But mine came with different sights then my other 5" 63 that is almost new in the box. If you can find one pick it up. I payed $425 for my shooter 5" 63 and $500 for the 63-5. The anib 5" was a little more expensive, but all came with box and docs.

I replaced the front sight with a plain black ramp sight; the fiber optic did not work with my eyesight.

The chambers were very tight and rounds were difficult to eject. The problem went away after about 1,000 shots.

My experience is that the demand for quality M63 4" no dash or -1 as the beautiful examples shared above are hard to come by, starting at $650-$750 in very good condition with no box or extras. That was what I looked for on the usual online sites for the past six months finding not a lot of folks getting rid of their kit guns. That in itself speaks to their popularity. After temporary putting my search on hold I decided to buy the new M63 3" 8 round NIB. I put in alerts on Bud's Guns and the best site for new S&W revolvers in my opinion being Kentucky Guns ($615 cash) and waited a few months with no luck. Last Sunday I finally picked up a M63 no dash 4" in excellent condition with cocobolo grips, no box or extras for $565 on GB. Needless to say I was blown away as that was my first choice initially. Patience is not a virtue I possess but sometimes one just slips through the cracks. The same seller on GB has sold two other M63's in the past month so check him out, he has exceptional S&W revolver listings, my only interest in handguns. The sellers name is N H COLLECTIBLES and he is a fine person to deal with. Good Luck........

My 63 is my favorite revolver. It's the gun that always makes it to the range and without question the most fired gun I own. It's a no dash 4" I got at an estate auction. I agree with ColbyBruce, the K frame is too big & heavy for a 22lr but the little J frame is perfect for a carry companion. And yes, it will make an excellent trainer for you M60.

4" J Frame 22 is hard to beat for just plain fun shooting. Darned near as accurate as the Mod 17 but a whole lot lighter. Best gun for teaching younger ones how to shoot.

I paid around $600 for my 5" 63-4 about 4 years ago and got the 3" in a trade last year for a very good price. $655 seems about right but you don't see many in the shops or on the auction sites. Good luck.

That is the exact same price my LGS in Jacksonville, FL had for me this summer. They happened to have a newly traded in one for $550. I bought the used one to save $100.
