Post as much of the SN as you feel comfortable (A8304XX or TAA24XX for example) and some of us on the forum can give you an approximate ship date.

Sorry it took so long to get back I have been off work for a few days and I do not have internet at home so anyway I think the serial # starts with TBK that is all I can remember right now. I will check it again later. Thanks for the help!

I am actually about to start work for the day right now so I understand the delay. Without my list present, I would guess that it would be right around 1987-1988. You have one of the last of the 2nd gen pistols. Could you post a picture? I am curious to see if your 639 has a squared or rounded trigger guard.

639 information wanted

I also just purchased a 639 and would like to know more about the history of the model, values, mfg. date, etc.
My gun's serial number is TAA89xx.
It has the round trigger guard.
I am also curious about the magazine which is not stainless.
I would think that it should be stainless to match the gun.
Thanks for any information that anyone might provide.

Yours is probably around 1984. The 639 is a 2nd gen version of the 39/39-2 in stainless steel. They introduced the fully adjustable "winged" sights and fixed rear sights. They also added a firing pin safety to the 2nd gens. The SS version was introduced a few years after the begining of the 2nd gen series.

Here is a couple of pics and the serial # is TBK67** What do you think this is worth if I was to sale it? Thanks again

639s are nice pistols. In this neck of the woods they can easily bring north of $400, depanding on condition and accessories. The early SS bottom mags fit better than those late ones, FWIW. I had the slide on mine treated with Black-T:

blackt1

That 639 looks to be in great shape. I think, depending on your area and accessories (an original mag would have more value to a collector, number of mags, along with box & paperwork) it would be in the $400 - $550 range.

I love those double-diamond stocks. Where did they come from?

Thanks!

Now that you mention it, the finish and checkering looked familiar. :)
