I just picked up a 2" 64-4.
This is my first S&W revolver and I'd like to change out the hammer to a bobbed one that still has a SA notch. Can someone point me in the right direction where I can buy one. I'd like to have a factory S&W hammer and don't won't to mod the org. one. Does anyone have the part number for a hammer that will work?

Since this is your first revolver you might not be aware that hammers are not just "drop-in" parts; the original hammer was fitted to the action of your gun. Accordingly, I would recommend you talk this project over with a qualified gunsmith. My apologies if I told you stuff you already knew.

Thanks, I do have a friend who is good with revolvers and is willing to fit a new hammer if I can locate one.

Best first bet is Numrich; they usually have factory hammers for for 64-4. Don't buy a factory bobbed one as it will likely by double-action only (Numrich never has them anyway).

Consider whether you need a hammer assembly, which will include the hammer nose and double-action sear, or if a stripped hammer will do and you can use the hammer nose and double-action sear from your current hammer (my advice: get the complete assembly).

If Numrich is out, try eBay; if eBay let's you down, try Jack First; if JF can't help, post in the Wanted to Buy section here.

Last and admittedly unsolicited advice -- is your friend a qualified revolversmith trained on the S&W platform, or just handy? If the former, great. If not, you might consider one who is.

Magnum Mark over on GB has some. If he doesn't currently display one, use their message function and ask him about it.
