Model 645 Value???

I got it for $750 .... feel like I paid too much but it's a beautiful weapon that my son will one day own. On the other hand I feel if I want to enjoy a 645, I need to purchase a worn or used one to shoot, instead ot ruining my newly purchased (Safe Queen). I've been watching lightly used ones go in the 700's so I don't feel I got completely got hosed, but I didn't steal it !!

I really appreciate all the feedback from everyone and I'm looking forward to being a member!!

Think I might look for a LE trade in, or a worn 645 in the high 300 range to make my shooter!!

congratulations......but instead of leaving a 645 to your son....if he is old enough...take him shooting with that 645 now and it will mean a whole lot more to him later on;)

Here's the deal from my perspective. With only a couple of exceptions, I purchase my 2nd and 3rd Gen pistols in 99% or better. I found my 645 LNIB in around June 2009 at a local gun shop. The pistol was in 99%+ condition, the box included everything: paperwork, the original magazines (the spare w/rubber on metal butt plate was wrapped in S&W paper) and cleaning tools in original baggie. I paid something around $650 or $675. I know that if I found the same pistol at the same gun shop today it would be at least $800.

I shoot mine and enjoy it. That's the way it should be. Just take care of it, keep it well lubricated, and shoot only one or two hundred rounds a year, it will remain like new. ENJOY! :)

Thanks and good point. What's the point of having a gun that just sits in a safe. Think I'll take that advice!

Nice looking weapon !

Shoot your new 645 tdavis and enjoy a great 45 that will hold up after many years of use and still be like new. Would love to see some pics of your new toy.

Thanks for everyones input !!! It's at my FFL and once I receive it I will post pics. Looking forward to owning a nice 645 and shooting it. !

This thread got me curious so I looked at closed auctions for 645s. There were quite a number of really clean ones that traded hands for somewhere in the $450-550 range. Some went a bit cheaper and some a little higher, but I think if someone is patient you can buy in that price range. We like these guns, but a whole lot of people see them as being nearly as big as a Desert Eagle. Still no shortage of them out there and they are still one heck of a nice 45. No sense in paying more than you have to own one.

I really need to stay off GB!

I traded 70 series Gold Cup for mine in the late 80's and never looked back. I could shoot it more accurately on the combat course. It was much safer for duty carry. It would feed empty cases all day long. If I felt I needed a gun I could count on, the 1911 would stay in the safe and a 2nd or 3rd gen would be in my hand.

So, it has been a few years since this string, and I'm wondering what I should be able to get for a lightly used, 645 in original box with Bianchi high-rise and clip holster? I bought it used from a friend in 1993, sent it back to S&W and they replaced the barrel and bushing for free, sighted it, and returned it with two new clips.

Put it on Gunbroker with no reserve and you will find out. Seriously doubt it goes to $795 like the one in the original post in this thread, but it is possible.

We traded in our S&W .357 revolver for the model 645. It was a great pistol. In fact I bought mine when we upgraded to the model 4506, shortly before my retirement. When I retired, they gave me the model 4506, with only 50 rounds through it. I later sold the model 645 to a bank security officer. He was a friend and I wanted to be sure he was well armed in case of trouble. My model 4506 was cleaned and has a home in my safe, it seems content there. I will leave it to my younger brother when I pass. They are both fine pistols.

Thanks Sevens, not sure I could do that, but you are right, I'd find out! It is a joy to shoot, however, and I'm just curious.

All I know is that from early 2007 to mid 2009 I went on a S&W Auto buying craze. I was looking everywhere in Southern California, from Ventura County down to north San Diego County (4 counties total). I was checking consignment websites of various gun shops. With rare exceptions, I going for 99% or better examples. During all that time I saw only ONE (1) Model 645 for sale, it was LNIB (heck it may have been unfired) and I bought it for around $650. If I saw another one today in like condition and didn't have one, I would buy it if it was $850 or less. And, even though I do have one, if I saw it today for less than $750, I would still jump on it. FWIW.

I saw a nice one here in CA sell at $750 fairly quickly within a couple days. I guess I was surprised at that though.

S&W 645 is a Great Pistol

This was my 1st pistol and I purchased it in 1992. It is celebrating it's 25th birthday with me this year. I have never changed any parts in it. It is 100% factory original as purchased NIB. It has never had a malfunction. I will say that I have not put many thousands of rounds through this pistol but over 25 years I have at least 3,000 through it. This pistol will eat anything you feed it without any problems. Although big and heavy it is a fine pistol that I would take into combat over the Beretta which I own or the new Sig Saur 320 which will become the new military pistol. I have a couple of pics attached so you can see that this pistol has a long life if properly cared for.
