Hi, how common are Model 65's in a 3' round butt? Do they command a premium price? Police turn with alot of scratches. Serial # AWZ6880. What is the approx value of this and age? Does have the box for what it is worth. Thanks in advance, as always for your input. Looking at buying 1 of these and don't want to get burnt! Bob

Mr. Bob banana, glad to help if we can ;).

The 3" model 65s will sell in the $400. range. $350. for a beater
and up to $500. for one in top shape.

With rubber grips, holster wear and minor scratches I would be willing
to pay $400. knowing I could restore the finish to like factory
original.

Most importantly you do not want excessive end play or slow take up,
(read that as not timing properly). Or any other mechanical issues.

What seems to have happened in the past few years is a surge
in desire for these 3" stainless Smiths.
Probably fueled by many of us on this forum extoling their virtues
and speaking of just how cool  they are.

Many seen here : http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-re...3-picture-thread-more-three-inch-madness.html

Look at the gun, and any questions come on back and ask.

I ,however would NOT buy one of the beater 3" 65s being shown
on Gun broker these days.

Buy a clean, mechanically sound gun to start, and don't look back
in regret.

Good luck
Allen Frame

Just to make you guys really feel bad...I bought this one in 2002 for the astronomical price of $175.

No...sorry it's not for sale. The wifes carry gun.

I paid $465 for mine, kind of got carried away with a Gunbroker auction a while back. I cleaned the scratches up a little, but I didn't get carried away. It is all steel with forged parts and shoots very straight.
I saw two 3" 65s at the gun show in Pittsburgh last weekend. Both were well used and $475 each.

It took myself some time(years) but I came across a nice 65-3 that cleaned up real nice in the same ballpark as what Allen-frame writes

"With rubber grips, holster wear and minor scratches I would be willing
to pay $400. knowing I could restore the finish to like factory
original." (Allen-frame right on point!)

To find my 3" 65 I was very Lucky
Oh did I say I was very very Lucky, I have seen plenty of these 65s sell locally for 475.00-500.00 What is the supply and demand in your area?
are revolvers a hot Item? remember If the price is comparable to GB sold prices, you are still saving on shipping and FFL fees?

The only one that it matters to if it is a good deal is yourself
Good luck with your purchase? And remember we all like new eye candy displayed here.

Very rare in my area.
Had to swallow hard when purchasing mine for $475. It DID come with a nice "purse", however:

I paid $480 for mine, an unmolested 65 with the no logo Compac style grips. It has the sweetest trigger of any K Frame in my modest collection, good shooter too...

Thanks for the replies. I did end up winning mine on GB for $341.00 +$30 shipping. It looks to be cleaner than most that I've looked at. Does have Goodyears, so I'll have to fix that. I do have C.T. Lasers that I may put on it, or I'll look for some wood. All of my K grips are square butt. Don't really know how to post pics still after over 2 years. It is part of being older and not trying new things. Bob

This one was owned by a local bank's security department, and was one of a group purchased by my local pusher. Carried a lot and shot very little. It's now one of my two carry guns. It has original Uncle Mike's combat stocks.
