I would like to know what a Model 65-1 1D33XXX with factory polish, original grips are worth. Excellent condition. Asking for a friend who wishes to sell. Thanks in advance.

The 3" barreled versions are hot right now, maybe 400-500 in my area. They are a bit less for the 4" version. Condition has a lot to do with value and the police trades are going for 250-300 for well worn specimens.

Hard to say without pics. Take some good pics with good lighting and a practical price-point can be made. I know I just bought a model 65-3 4" barrel model in excellent condition for $400.

I put the grips on afterwards from Gun Grips for Sale| Colt 1911, Python and Woodsman - Exotic and Beretta Wood |Revolver and Handgun Grips .

Just because of the occasional availability of decent to nice police trade-ins for $250ish, I'd think a decent 4" would sell somewhere around $400, or a little less depending on how fast they want to sell it. I'm sorta keeping my eye out for one for a project Idea, but of course that means I'm looking for one around $300 or less.

Maybe guns can be had for cheaper down south compared to up north here, but around here I'd say "GOOD LUCK!" LOL! If you could find a used S&W 357mag for <300, I would be very leary of it as it most likely is in need of repair. North or South, you won't find one in very good to excellent condition unless the seller is a drug addict needing a fix.

Not long ago SOSS had some pretty nice 681s (sorta like an L frame version of the 65) for $399. But, yeah, the sub $300 guns I was thinking about were actually model 64s rather than 65s. And of course I did say that I was looking for one for a project, so I guess that means that I'm ok with something that needs a little work. Still wouldn't pay 5 bills for a used 4" 65 though. 3"? Yeah, but 4", no.
