Can anyone give me any info on a model 659 smith and wesson. Are they good guns, and dependable. What is a 90% condition 659 worth?

I gave $330 for this 659. It will shoot any ammo that I feed it. I have never had any problems with mine.

Great guns

I have a 659 built in 1986. Very nice to shoot. I have bought several items for it from this forum (grips, clips, holsters, papers) It is a little heavy, but worth it. The double strike ability is awesome! (If it no go bang, you pull the trigger again. It go bang!) i had bought some cheap ammo during the shortage that was from 1978, primers a little tough to pop. Anyways have fun. Jeff S

well that is a hell of a good pistol..I have a 5906 which is the same except for the grip framewhich is not as bad as some have cried about :

The M-659 is much underappreciated IMHO. Steel frame, high capacity, built like a tank. A little too big for smaller hands, that's all. I've had mine since 1985.

I have small hands, and I've owned a Model 59, a Model 659, and now I own a Model 5906.

I don't think the grips are big at all.

To give you an idea of how small my hands are, I have to buy plain black woman's gloves, usually in size medium, for driving in the winter. My fingers are short, so I have a hard time finding gloves that really fit me well.

So with my considerably smaller than average hands, I've NEVER had any problems with ANY of the metal framed S&W semiautos.

I just wish I had not sold so many, when times were lean.

I have 2- 659's and do enjoy them very much!
Fine, all Stainless Steel pistols.
Nice contrast to all the plastic and alloy that followed.
You might have to go $400. to get one in very nice
condition today.
