Howdy folks:
I've come across a model 66 (pre-dash) 4" barrel, target stocks, stainless rear sights. Other then needing a good cleaning, the only blemish
is the cylinder release rubbing against the frame ahead of the release button. The bore looks good etc. What do you think a reasonable price would be for such an item?
I appreciate the your help.
Thanks, Rob

You did not mention box or docs so I am assuming none.

I would think that around $400 is fair market price in that condition, The further below that price and the better the condition the better the deal.

I recently passed on a SS site M66 in very good condition for $375.00 with original grips but no box.

As for the site adding value it has been discussed before and consensus was maybe to the right collector but not always.

Remember as a shooter that complaints of a poor site picture is what caused the factory to change to a black rear site and red ramp to begin with.
ewer clean SS rear site guns exist and clean condition adds more value than older SS sites IMHO .

PD trade in Model 67's are selling on J&G for about $250.00 with rubber grips and I do believe they have some older pinned barrel as well as SS site guns left.

I paid $425 for an early run SS site model 67 in 98% condition with box and docs .

I think a good price on a no dash model 66 in the condition you describe would be between $425 and $450 in my neck of the woods and a year ago they were going for about $75 more then that. You are hard pressed around here to get a 4 inch 357 for less the $450 if it's in decent condition.

Here's mine and I paid $550 last year for it.

most of the early 66 guns with stainless sights went to pd's. during that time period, stainless guns were very hard to come by in the retail market. we all know what 29's were doing during that timeframe, i have seen these 66's sell for as much as the 44 mags at that time. around here,$400 was the usual start price. that was when retail was $280.

Thanks for your input guys, I really appreciate it. They're asking $600 and it's just not in $600 condition (especially for a Prohib).
That's a very nice Model 67 Engine49guy, how did you know that it's on the top of my wish list? It's not nice to tease people you know.:D
Now if it looked like fyimo's Model 66, I think my next credit card statement would be $600 larger, but it's no where near that nice.
Gorgeous Model 66, fyimo, beautiful picture too.

Thanks again guys.

:) I saw a M66-0 go for $650 about 3 weeks ago at a gun show. The owner said it had been fired 6 times and it had the box tools and papers. It also had SS sights. Don

Hey Rob,
Although we are a group of hardcore revolver fans older wheel guns are not the big sellers when compared to modern plastic semis autos.

They might work with you on the price if it doesnt move in a week.

I wouldnt have a problem paying $600 for a NIB gun.

Used ones with no box docs or accessories are fairly plentiful under $500.

That's an exceedingly nice Model 67 you have there Art. Just couldn't pass on a chance to torment the inmates a little more, could ya.:D One of these days I'll find a nice minty M67 up here, I hope.

As for the plastic semi's, they can have them. I'll take the metal and wood wheel gun over a piece of plastic any day - a lot more class and style in the old S&W package, if you ask me.

Actually, "New In the Box", or close to it, is what I'm really hoping to find and I don't mind paying a premium for it. But the reality of gun laws in Canada pretty much dictates that the

demand for any "Prohibited class firearms" will decrease over time, as those with "Prohibited Licenses" (you had to own a prohibited firearm when the law came into effect to qualify for

a prohibited license) eventually die off. So buying "prohib" guns up in this neck of the woods should never be done as an investment - unless you're nuts of course. I buy them because

I think the 4" K-frame is the ideal gun in size, weight and balance for anything up to a .357 Mag, that and I love the quality of the older S&W's. What I have a hard time with, is the

prices for used prohib guns up here seems to be following the prices down south and there really is no collector value that can be added to the prices up here. I think people look at sites like

"Gun Broker" etc. and figure that's what they should ask for, for a non-prohib that's fine, but for a prohib, all I can say to them is "We're not in Kansas anymore Toto!";)

Thanks, Rob
