Looking for any and all info on a model 66-2 with 3" bbl and round butt. I didn't know the 66 came in a 3" configuration. The 65, yes.

Could this be a special distributor run?

Thanks all.

Yes....... you got one of the early ones an Ashland -2 there were also -3 and -4s........

Per the SCS&W 5000 were produced for Ashland in 1985...... the other three runs were much smaller; -3s in 88 and the -4s in 96 and 99 for RSR.

I have -3s and a -4. The -3s were a slow seller in the late 80s as the "Wonder-9" craze was well underway ....... revolvers set while everyone wanted anything with 15 rd up it's butt.

Value these days seems to start at about $1000 and top out around $1500

There was also a small run of three inch model 66-5's for Lew Horton. They have a different sight base profile than the Ashland guns.

Ashland 66-2

Lew Horton 66-5 (one of 300)

The Lew Horton gun came with the white "faux ivory" grips that are on the Ashland gun above. These were the same grips that shipped on the limited run "Super K" model 66's.

Were all the 66-5's produced part of the 500 run for Lew Horton? I picked up one a few weeks ago and has Uncle Mikes Grips. Supposedly this was the grips that came new with the gun.

66-2 3" bbl

Any issues affecting value if an action job were to be performed (NOVA Gunworks is my preferred gunsmith. And for those who know Sandy Garrett's work, I believe you would agree he is at the top of the list) and bead blast?

Or just the action job?

Bead blasting maybe from a true collector........ action job; if well done ( no buggered screws or push off) probably not.

I still use one of mine (wearing Spegel Boot Grips) as a concealed carry gun (Sparks Summer Special).... when I'm up at the cabin or just want a revolver....I normally carry a 3rd Gen. auto

They are great guns..... I got 2 of mine in the late 80s for under $300 and the the 3rd "used" around 2000 for just over $300 (LGS sold it as a 2 1/2"); I'd have a hard time carrying one if I'd paid +$1000 for it..... I'd just carry a 2 1/2 or 4 inch worth more like $500-600

One just closed on the major auction site just north of $1500

I had a 2.5"-2 that I purchased NIB and kept for many years but I always wanted a 3" for the slightly longer sight radius and the fact that the ejector rod is longer, making it easier to eject .357's. Found one NIB for $500 several years ago and would not part with it.
