I recently purchased a used Model 66-2, 2.5 inch pre internal lock with S&W synthetic rubber grips. SN is 271K249.Gun actually has the stamp of 66-2 with a #1 overstamped on the -2 also. Could have been a factory mistake and they restamped accordingly. Great looking gun with good balance, tight lockup, clean bore and smooth action. Revolver has markings from previous law enforcement inventory #30760. Weapon shows signs of slight holster wear and minute abrasions. Local gunsmith checkedout and says it is at 95 percent. Looking for info on date of manufacture and any other information I can obtain.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson shows that serial numbers:
270K000 - 311K273 were shipped in 1983.
Is your M66 pinned and/or recessed? the M66-2 was introduced in 1982. If it is pinned or recessed, could be a "transitional" piece where there were parts available from the previous issue. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you for the information, I have the SCSW and was pretty close on that information also. It is not pinned or recessed and i think in came from product code 102703, with the synthetic S&W grips.
I think the "2" is stamped over the "1".
During the transition from the 66-1 to -2, it was very common for an unpinned frame to be stamped "MOD. 66-1" and when the revolver no longer had any "-1" features (ran out of recessed cylinders), they'd overstamp it a "2".
My 19-5 in the 201K range is like that too.
May be hard to see but...attached.

After closer inspection last night I realized the SN is 219K249
giving it a 1982 shipped date.
(SNW19_357) the trademark is the same size as your M19 shown above. It does have the "F" stamped 1.62" non counterbored cylinder.
