Model 66-2 or 686 Plus ???

Wow, I can't believe the response here!!! Thank you all so much! After reading all this I have decided to stay with the 66-2. Maybe one day I'll add the 686+ to the team. Happy Hunting!!!

Have owned a 686, 4" in the past and now have a 66-2, 4"
If I were shooting a steady diet of full load .357 mag bullets, the 686 is a better choice. For occasionally shooting those "full loads" and woods carry, the 66 wins that contest hands down.

What's a woods carry load? In a .357 (to me) it's a Buffalo Bore 180 gr. hard cast flat nose. Good enough for black bear. I'd stay with which ever gun soots a load like that better.

I had two 4" 66's that I sold during some very hard times. One of those was P&R and I miss it. One day my LGS had acquired a 66-1 4" P&R and asked if I wanted to buy it for $275. So I bought it. Then about 6 months later my LGS acquired a 4" 686 no dash and asked me if I wanted to buy it for $300. So I bought it. I will probably never see another P&R 4" 66 or a 4" 686 no dash in my area again for the rest of my life and especially not for the prices that I paid for mine. Sadly, my LGS passed away last January but before he died we had become very good friends and he is missed. And no....I wouldn't trade my 66 for anything....

I carry essentially the same load from Underwood in my 4" 66-2 whenever I head out to the woods. A load like that will benefit from a longer barrel, i.e. the model 66 in this case.

Hey folks I've been looking at getting another revolver to carry in the field and a backup while hunting. I have a 66-2 with a 4" tube that does very well, however I was looking at a like new 686 Plus with a 3" tube today. That 686 is one sweet looking piece of equipment!!! I really can't swing just a straight purchase, so I need to trade in the 66 if I go for the 686.
So do I stay with the tried and true 66 or go for the 7 shot 686? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rowdy

Have not had the pleasure of using the 66, but I recently bought a 686-Plus with 4 inch barrel and I like it. Beautiful craftsmanship, extremely accurate; gotta love that seventh surprise round and well, as they say; a picture is worth a thousand words...

Carrying as a "backup" or concealed carry keep the 66........... +p hollow points in town.... .357 soft points in the woods........

686+.... I'd be shooting 6 and dumping 7........ this old dog won't learn that new trick........ LOL
