What would be the fix? It moves right to left when the cylinder is closed or in the lock position. it locks up pretty good with the hammer in the cock position there is very little movement.
thanks Dave

The usual reason for excessive cylinder rotational play is peening of the cylinder stop notches, the frame opening for the cylinder stop, or poor fitting of the cylinder stop, or all three. It can be tightened up by replacing the cylinder stop or stoning the frame engagement surface to allow it to rise higher for tighter lockup. From your description, it does not need work.

I thought the movement was more than it should be. it leaves a gap between the crane and the frame. john it locks up tight and the timing is good, its not rotational but lateral. hope thats a little more clear.

Ah...now I understand.

The sideways excessive movement you describe that leaves a gap between the crane and frame is caused by improper fitting of the locking bolt (engages the end of extractor rod). It's also possible that the barrel is not indexed correctly (front sight not vertical) because the barrel has loosened. Those are the most likely reasons the crane does not fit snugly against the frame with cylinder closed. Close visual inspection should narrow it down.

The fix is to tighten the barrel using frame wrench and barrel vise blocks. This is not uncommon with guns fired extensively using heavy loads.

Check for a bent extractor rod along with what John suggested. If the rod is bent (not uncommon) the yoke/frame fit will go from tight to loose as the cylinder is rotated.
