I read it as meaning he wrote to Newton's people.

Further information on "Wayne Newton" Model 66. Yes, it left the factory engraved "Wayne Newton 1976". It was shipped August 22, 1976 to Cheshire & Perez Co., Monrovia, CA. "This revolver was shipped with a 2-1/2" barrel equipped with a red ramp front sight, satin finish; and smooth rosewood round butt grips", to quote the factory letter. The date of the factory letter is July 10, 2019.

I am 99.9995% sure that the gun was owned by Wayne Newton at some point in time. I'm not at all sure which Wayne Newton. :D
