Model 66 - Trying to Establish Providence ***Wayne Newton***

My Son was born in the Nellis AFB Hospital.
There was a nurse there who was Wayne Newton Fan no.1.
She tried to get all the new Moms to name their kid Wayne or Wayne Newton.
And she really did know Wayne. As a prominent fan club member, she had been to events out at Shanendoah .

My 66 no dash 4" has the s&W roll mark in the exact same location.
I don't think the location is significant at all.

Further information on "Wayne Newton" Model 66. Yes, it left the factory engraved "Wayne Newton 1976". It was shipped August 22, 1976 to Cheshire & Perez Co., Monrovia, CA. "This revolver was shipped with a 2-1/2" barrel equipped with a red ramp front sight, satin finish; and smooth rosewood round butt grips", to quote the factory letter. The date of the factory letter is July 10, 2019. STILL DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS OWNED BY Wayne Newton. Letters requesting information go un-answered. I carry it and shoot it. It is cool. I paid the price of a used 66 and it is still being used. I have been offered twice what I paid for it. It ain't worth 2 times the amount I paid for it but the novelty of it seems to be worth it. One day I will sell it and let someone else try to track down the original ownership. But, until then, I aim to shoot it and have fun with it. I have a 4 inch 66 from the same era that I used as a rookie deputy sheriff that I like to use with it.

Welcome to the Forum

I am guessing that you have not ordered a S&W Historical letter on this revolver. The information that you seek may be right there.

Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation - Letter Process - Insuring that the rich history of Smith & Wesson will continue for generations to come

Contacting Mr Newton (or his staff) personally is another great route to go.

Be sure to send a few pics with your email which I would think would be an attention getter...

Even though he isn't Liberace I thought it would have more "bling".

Maybe it was truly meant as an EDC for him but I can't see a man like Wayne Newton "having" to part with anything.

If it truly was his then maybe he eventually gifted to someone? (Or stolen?)

Curiosity abounds.

Actually, if you read through his biography on Wiki, there is plenty of talk about business difficulties, bankruptcy, and unpaid debts and taxes. So having acquired this at some point, maybe even as a gift by a well-heeled admirer, it seems entirely possible that the gun might be sold again.

The engraved year indicates that the name wasn‘t meant to just personalize the gun, like an owner might do, but is tied to a specific time and possibly event.

PS: Then again, who knows, per the shipping destination in the letter, maybe the Monrovia Police Dept. had a detective named Wayne Newton who retired in 1976 :D

PPS: Well, well, so I thought I was joking, but here‘s what I found in another forum in a very old thread about Cheshire & Perez:

“Cheshire and Perez were the west cost distributor/ warranty repair facility for Smith. They were located in Monrovia, California. They were a S&W LE distributor and much of their business came from LE clientele. They did build some PPC guns but it was sort of a side business for them, as an offshoot of their LE sales.”

Sorry, I'm not trying to be the grammar cop, but if your going to contact Mr. Newton, the word you mean is "Provenance".

Good luck. :)
Also not trying to be the grammar police but it would be if you're going to contact Mr. Newton not if "your" going to!

IMHO, W. Newton is and was one of the biggest creeps that ever made a living in show business. ......

I’ve spent some time around him and he’s actually an amazingly kind and considerate person. That said, I saw him get mad one day and he has quite a temper. But all things considered, he’s a pretty good guy.
