Just picked up model 66 2.5 inch barrel ser. number 82k10xx in real good shape was wanting to have a little help on the year it was maufactured.Thanks in advance KLW

Thanks S&W Fan thought maybe 78-80 wish i still had all of the old Smiths i've bought and sold.Kind of starting a smaller collection again after loading up on 1911's.

Yep! it is all that. I was just wondering why the serial no. was so different , my guess is that they batch the numbers to the years made.

K Target site guns made after WWII had serials that ran from K-101 to K-999999, after that they moved the K over like 1K12345, 1K12346, then 2K, then 3K...4K prefix guns usually are from the early 70's.
