I picked this one up a week or so ago. I was sort of looking for a 39-2, didn't see one, but spotted this one hidden way back in the back of the case. I sort of thought I might carry it, but to be honest I've gotten spoiled by my Ruger LC9s, and don't want to carry anything this heavy. I guess it will be a range toy, and a nightstand gun.

I like the "old school" look. When I was going through my IPSC phase, one of the things the cool kids had was that hooked and checkered trigger guard. It actually seems to work as advertised, but the checkering on this one is pretty sharp.

The mag well is also beveled which is a nice feature on a gun for serious purposes. The magazine a double stack 12 rounder (9mm). The hammer is bobbed. Trigger is typical DA/SA.

I've taken it to the range once, and put five or six magazines of my 115 grain reloads through it. Not one bobble and I didn't shoot it any worse than I do most any other handgun.

Sweet looking gun! For some reason I always resist picking up an older S&W pistol. Maybe it's unfamiliarity with the pistols, I dunno. Maybe I should look harder at them.

+1 on the post by jsbethel...bought one a couple of years ago...a definite safe queen...serial number was one of the affected. S&W paid for the shipping.
Very nice gun!

Well bought, these are great little pistols, I love these compacts and have a small collection of the different models. My favorite S&W 9mm.
If you check the recall link you can test the gun yourself, following the safety warnings of course.

Congrats!!! Looks to be in pretty nice shape. These compacts are great for carry and range use.
I've been using my 40 for carry and my 9 for steel shoots. They've both performed 100%.

Enjoy her.

I bought mine new back in the day. I still to this day love it. It eats any ammo you run through it. & I honestly shoot it better than my Shield (could be time of ownership) RE: Recall Smith took care of mine with out any issues. my .02 Mike

Very nice 669! Congrats! :)

Back around 1989 my father, a devout Colt revolver man, told me he wanted a compact high capacity 9mm semi auto. I took him to the local dealer and he picked out a NIB 669.

I recall him shooting it one time. Never saw him carry it. He always carried his off duty Colt Cobra instead. A couple of years ago he gave the 669 to me and told me to sell it or use it as a teaching gun. Ive done neither, yet.

When he passed away last year I recieved his treasured Colt Cobra. I keep them both together. Good memories. Regards 18DAI

Then why buy it?
If you don't plan to carry it you buy it because it's something unique, or you perceive to be so.
I would not choose any Ruger LCP over a compact S&W....the percentages just aren't there for you!

Why buy it? Because I wanted to try it, and they won't loan them out.

You're welcome to carry what you want. It's OK with me.

Nice old pistol! That model was my first double stack pistol that I ever owned. Back then, it was because I needed working guns. Little did I know I'd also become an "accumulator" over the years. Really wish I had that one back. Not sure when, where or for what reason I got rid of it. If I could find a good example, along with a few extra magazines, it'd likely have a new home.

It's a beautiful gun and I think it's much better than the Model 39, but it is fairly heavy. But "heavy" has never stopped many gun owners who appreciate great craftsmanship in their firearms. In fact, I can never figure out why people would sell such guns to begin with.

I've said it before, but I don't think S&W could make such guns today and make them affordable. The last 5906s Smith made were pretty cheap with black polymer hammers and triggers and a two-tone appearance. I'm sure they worked fine, but let's face it. Many gun owners like the old fashioned quality S&W used to build into its guns.

So keep it in a drawer or a safe...but keep it! I can't get enough of the older Smiths. I really miss them.

I recently repossessed a 469 from my son, I had gained it in a trade in 1995 IIRC and he had talked me out of it in 2001. He is now into Glocks & LCR's, so I brought it home. Have carried it some in a Simply Rugged Cuda, carries pretty good but I'm more a Wheelgun kinda guy .... ;o)

You are a lucky son of a gun. I have been looking for one of those for a very long time. Congrads to you Sir.
