I picked up a nice model 67 recently, and it has the tapered barrel. Thinking of trying to find another one.

Were these guns offered with a heavy barrel, and if so, which dash series?

I don't think any were made with the heavy barrel, but don't let that stop you from buying several more!

I'd really like to get a look at one of the new 67s with the one piece heavy barrel. It's my understanding that Smith now uses the .357 length cylinder on these guns and I'm wondering if that means they are using the late model 66 (-5 and 6) frames for them. If so, you'd essentially have a late model 66 (but with the dreaded IL of course) but chambered for a .38 SPL. It would be the closest current production Smith you could get to those super sweet old K-frames.

I have put model 64 barrels on 67's and then pinned on the front sight, but the barrels dont quiet match up with the frame contour ,no heavy barrel will match up with the contour on the 67.Doesnt look too bad but you can tell it wasnt made for the gun. Bob

Thanks to all for the info. I will probably "settle" for a model 15 heavy. Looking for a the option of a little more weight up front and retain the 4" length, without going to an L frame. I could go with a 66 or 19, but would rather not pay the premium for a magnum.

I'm having trouble remembering how to post pictures, it's been a while. Dean

Wow! That is one sweet 67. It looks like the front sight blade is pinned - you could swap out the blade for an SDM fiber optic if you were so inclined. I had no idea they made those. How's it shoot?

I am pretty sure that the Model 68's were made only with 6 inch barrels.
