I have a weakness for rescuing S&W revolvers that have been neglected or abused. Based on my readings here I am not alone. Like the 66-1 that my Depity Sherriff buddy asked me to help him put back together after he had disassembled and run through the dishwasher because it was dirty. I shamed him into selling it to me. My gunsmith buddy replaced the rusted rear sight, tuned and bead blasted to resemble the Factory "Combat Revolver Package". The latest is this 686-4 2.5 inch and my first L frame (don't ask me what took so long to get one). Some might not like the bead blast look but I really like the factory job on my 65 3". A prior owner had bobbed the case hardened hammer (not too bad a job) but then thinned the trigger for some reason making it uncomfortable to shoot double action. Lots of scratches. I obtained stainless replacement parts and turned it over to my buddy. It's much better now I think. Shoots great. Target is 50 round qual course. In the past I almost obtained a 581 and then a 681 - which now I wish I had followed through on both. Gonna have to start hunting more L frames. Based on my limited time with this gun wish we had carried L frames instead of Model 65s before we switched to Sigs.
