Model 686 Identification

Hello All, Looking to find out what I can about this firearm I inherited. Here is the info.

Behind the yoke, it says "686-6"
357 Magnum - 6 inch barrel -

That looks like product code 164272. It was made for many years, across multiple engineering revisions

That is a 686 Power Port

The Power Port is very effective at reducing muscle climb with full magnum ammunition, it is not so effective with reduced loads or when shooting 38 Special, 38 Long Colt, or 38 Short Colt ammunition in the revolver

The Power Port revolvers, which were offered in several chamberings, were extremely popular among those of us that enjoyed shooting pins. The design allowed us to get back on target very, very fast

This is not the correct forum. With the skate key-lock the production of this gun is way after 1980.

That's a might fine pistolero you got there, pard. I traded in my model 10 for a 686 no dash model. A few years later, I replaced the model 10, so now I have both, and a couple of other models.

I have a 686-4 4" and a 686-6 Plus (7 shot) 6". They're my normal range pistols.
