My local LGS has a slightly used 2.5" Model 69 for $850 plus tax (there may be a little wiggle room with the price). Is this a deal or dealbreaker? What say you? Thanks for the help.
If the gun is in good mechanical order and it is one you want, then I say go for it. You won't even miss $50 or $100 a year from now. Most of the quotes for online dealers don't include credit card, shipping and transfer fees, so the difference isn't really that great.
A lot of times people buy .44 mags, shoot a couple of rounds and trade the guns back in. Don't know if this is the case here, but likely.
Lot's of thread creep going on, so I'll add some more. The 2.75" M69 is my favorite handgun platform. Have shot everything from 180gr XTPs thru 355gr BTB LFNGCs (haven't chronoed, but guess around 975 based on recoil and other chrono results in other guns).
My regular (2 or three times a week) range load is 240-265gr over 17.5gr of A2400, deep seated and crimped over front drive band in .44 Mag cases. These chrono between 1,120fps and 1,170 fps depending on the bullet. A nice .44 special equiv load is 5.0gr of WST under the the same above bullets and seated the same way.
If you really need T Rex type loads, Buffalo Bore and Underwood load some 305gr Stompers.
Buffalo Bore, 305 LBT LFN HC rated 1,325 fps
Underwood, 305 LFNGC Plated (HiTech?) rated 1,325 fps
LabRadar muzzle velocity at 33 deg F
S&W M69 2.75" ===> BB 1,195 fps ===> Under 1,147fps
S&W M69 4.25" ===> BB 1,276 fps ===> Under 1,248 fps
Ruger SRH 7.5" ===> BB 1,395 fps ===> Under 1,315 fps
Just my 2 cents.
