Just read this news. Father of independent film and a good guy.
"You think not getting caught in a lie is the same thing as telling the truth?"
Later Mr. Redford.

Newman and Redford are 2 that I would have like to share a bottle of good bourbon with when they were younger. Would have been a great conversation.

Don't know why, but this image is what I think of when I hear Redford's name. It's from A Bridge Too Far and the Americans are trying to cross a river in boats that didn't have oars or paddles, so the troops used their rifles as paddles.

J Johnson, 3 Days of the Condor, and a bunch of other great movies, but the thing I will always remember is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, is the last movie I ever went to with my Dad and Mom. Used to go regularly, but I got too grown-up.

I liked " Out of Africa" the story his friend told, about a fellow borrowing a book from Redfords character and not returning it. I asked Denys you wouldn't lose a friend over a book would you. Reply "No, but he has!" I often feel that way about borrowed gun items..

Another of his finest efforts was his long journey to getting A River Runs Through It made into a film, and his directing and narration of the final product. He distilled Norman Maclean's masterful tale into an elegant cinematic treatment.

Politics aside .. (snip)
I've seen this a few times in this thread ... seems to be a necessary declaration for some reason. AFAIK he wasn't a congressman, governor, senator .. or chief dog catcher. Just a guy with a point of view like all of us have. We don't all agree with each other all the time and I'm glad for it.

Some things need to be said and a lot of other things don't. I for one would like to see this nonsense put to rest.
