Are the 910 & 915 considered 3rd Gen pistols? Also, is the only difference between two the magazine capacity?

I realize that they are considered "budget" models. Is the fit/finish of a lesser quality?

They are not the most expensive 9mm handguns, but they are nice 9mm guns. They are not as "budget" as the SWV polymer guns, but do have some internal plastic parts that were metal in more expensive guns that can optionally be swapped out. They perform well out of the box. You cannot beat them for the money and you seldom, if ever, hear complaints from their owners. The finish is quite serviceable.

Definitely both 3rd Gens (and essentially the same gun) with the Model 915 being the pre-AWB gun (1992-1994) and the Models 910 & 910S being the "ban" and "post-ban" guns. :)

The Model 915 has the advantage of having the "premium" 3rd Gen gun profile and look with fewer manufacturing & economizing shortcuts. The Model 910 has the advantage of wearing Novak-style sights. :)

I just purchased a 1994 Model 915 from a fellow forum member. It's only my second all-black 3rd Gen purchase (the first one being a bargain Model 908 that I "won" at a show) as I am mainly a stainless steel 3rd Gen kind of guy. :D Despite the old style sights on the Model 915, I love the look. I also own a Model 910S which, so far, has worked out very well for me.

The Model 915 has another advantage here in loony moonbat Massachusetts. Being that the gun is unquestionably pre-AWB, carrying it with its original pre-AWB hi-cap magazines makes it doubly safe from a "legal threat" point of view. As a result, it may actually become my preferred hi-cap carry piece. :)

Yes, they are both 3rd Gens. I believe the 915 uses a few more metal parts, but 15 rd mags will work in both guns.

I just recently replaced the 915 I traded away in my youth. It's a great pistol, especially for what you pay for them nowadays. It dropped right back in the holster, almost like it hadn't been gone for 19 yrs!

It will take over my "hi-cap" duties, as well. It's lighter than my 5906, and has additional safety features that my 59 does not have. And I got to right a great wrong for $250!

Actually the sights on the Value line pistols are not Novak sights. They resemble them and thats no accident.

S&W did not want to pay a royalty to Wayne Novak. So they made a sight that resembled the Novak low mount. Plastic, easily damaged and not as easy to pick up as a Novak, but they didn't have to pay out money to put them on the Value line pistols. Regards 18DAI

I guess I should have been aware of that. :D Just never thought about it. ;) Thanks for the correction! :D

From now on I'll say "Novak-style" sights. :)

I have a 910-S that I think shoots as good as my 952-2 SS and cost about 1/3 less (when I bought the 952). I think there's a difference in the barrel lock up between the 910 and the 915. The 910 locks up on the forward chamber lug and the 915 has an additional locking lug forward of the chamber.
A good gun nonetheless.

Geesus Pete!!!   You practically stole that gun!!! :D

I paid quite a bit more but no regrets. :) Around here, a privately-owned Model 915 in decent shape is a $400 & up gun... and they go quick at that price. ;)

915 is a great gun IMHO..... $250......I thought my $300 with 2/3 mags was a winner......

Most folks don't know about them ...... and they go dirt cheep....or did when you could find one.

It was only a few weeks ago. Only one mag, and it had some "wear and tear", cosmetically speaking, but nothing you would see if you weren't looking for it.

Considering I paid somewhere near $375-400 back in '91, I'm happy with it.

The 910 has plastic sights, guide rod and mag catch nut. Those parts on the 915 are metal.
