Since moving west last year, I have found very few older used revolvers in local gun shops. Kind of a surprise moving from Anti gun New York ( where shops were overflowing with old used classics it seems) to free America ( Arizona) where pickings are slim.
Anyhow spotted a 4 screw model 10 no dash at a local pawn shop. At first the gun looked mint- turning it over revealed an area over two chambers that the shop owner said came from it being stored in a holster( finish loss ) the shop has a price of 399 on the tag. Since I am old enough to have purchased a pile of model tens in shooter grade condition under 200 bucks in the past, is 400 out of line? I figure I might wheel and deal lower or offer some trade items. Input appreciated

"An area" is a bit vague and open to the imagination, so it's hard to be definite. A Model 10 no-dash (those were all four-screw, so that's nothing special) in very good to mint condition would easily be worth $400 in most places, so it really depends on the size/obviousness/depth of that "area". Got a picture :) ?

A 4-screw, no dash model 10 is not very common. I was looking at gunbroker the other day and of the 500+ 10's for sale, not one was a no dash. I have a high condition 5", and I wouldn't sell it for $500, let alone $399.

What is the barrel length?

I paid slightly above $400.00 for one in March ($9.00 more). It is a snub nose former Montgomery, Alabama police revolver.

It is in decent condition with original serial number matching stocks/grips.

Here are some pictures. The back strap markings were done at the factory. Without the slight provenance and short barrel, I would not think it worth the price.

Maybe, it will help as a reference point.
