Cyclist hit a pedestrian last week in Central Park so now there's a crackdown on the speed demons zipping through the park. The NYPD stopped issuing Model 10's in 1987, so this Sgt has at least 27 years on. Senior Sgt working Central park, with his choice of days off and vacation time. Why retire? He could have gone to the semi auto anytime he wanted in the last 20 years but is sticking with his Model 10. Look at the worn look of that Jay Pee holster. Bet it could tell some stories! Notice the duty belt. Just a holster, a speed loader case, and probably a pair of cuffs on the other side. look at the other cop's belt. Man, times have changed.

And don't get me started on the beard of the other cop. Looks totally unprofessional to me.

Good pickup, I saw the same photo in a news story and noticed the Sgt's uniform but not his sidearm. Can you tell it is a model 10 and not a 64?

Looks blue to me.

Man I'm not trying to be critical and that has the appearance of a very professional officer, but I would have gotten suspended if I had shown up for shift with my leather gear in that shape. Also, I think he might be a Corporal rather than a Sgt.

Nope. NYPD has no corporals. As for leather gear, as long as it's serviceable it OK. And truth be told, worn leather is a badge of honor. Shows time on the job. Probably why he kept his model 10. And I zoomed in. Blued with a hammer spur. No way a 64

It's a Model 10 and he is a Sergeant (no Corporals in NYPD). The third chevron is not visible because his arm is raised and the fabric of the sleeve is folded. Worn leather IMO is not a badge of honor; it means his gear hasn't been inspected. My problem with such worn JayPee holsters isn't so much the appearance but the likelihood that the "thumb lock" has worn out and could present a hazard in terms of firearms retention.

That's not unusual. You can still find Philadelphia cops who carry revolvers. They started on the force when revolvers were normal issue. When it came time to change they didn't want to. It's probably a safe bet that he was a rookie when the transition happened

Sorry, he would have never gotten away with that in my department. Not only looks bad but sets a terrible example for his men. If I would have shown up at roll call with gear like that I wouldn't be on the street that day.

Leather is atrocious. It's easily dyed to be uniformly black with any number of easily available touch-up products. I see he's in cargo pants, also. I'm all about a 'tac' uniform for comfort in certain postings. However, you wear it with a like-pattern shirt, not the standard poly-blue daily. Dude's a hot-mess in the appearance department, LOL.

If the leather is that neglected, I wonder how the revolver looks? Our organization has a motto: "PRIDE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE". This guy may be a Ninja or bench 450 lbs, but from a Constructive Force standpoint, he is a zero. We would refer to him as a "Soup Sandwich".

There's some fail there all around.

You can only go so fast under human power. Nobody wants to avoid a collision more than the cyclist.

They want to take the fun/challenge out of everything for the good of all these days.

What's next, speed limits on joggers so as not to offend or startle anyone?

The cargo pants came in about 10 years ago as an option. You see the other cop has standard poly pants. Cargo are way more practical and comfortable.

As for the leather , I have zero problem with it. The gun is secured. If we want to start talking about looking professional, I'd prefer we got rid of the fat cops and the NYPD has those in spades. I think he cop with he facial hair looks worse. And the gun is inspected twice a year at qual time. I'm sure lots of blueing loss but sure works fine.

I respect your opinion, obviously the majority (with the badge beside their screen name) feel differently.

No argument from me that the facial hair looks unprofessional also.
