In this day and age of striker 5 lb trigger pulls, it seems to me that Smith could make their Revolvers more attractive to the consumer (it isn't like M&P departments are buying them anymore and need to set the pull to the lowest common denominator or that anti-gun groups will like Smith any less) by revising their corporate standard of 12 lbs/4 lbs to something along the line of what the new Colt Cobras are (9 lbs DA/3.75 SA). Even Ruger has a 10 lb/4 lb Corporate policy. 12 lbs makes the gun more difficult to shoot accurately and isn't as pleasing to shoot.
And Performance Department gunsmith or revolvers are no different; they just finish them a bit better. One shouldn't have to get a trigger job on a premium priced revolver and thus encumber the owner with liability or warranty concerns.
It is no secret that Smith is having issues selling guns. Revolvers have long been a mainstay for the Company and it should be leading the way with this product category. I think taking a wack at an old 12 lb DA/4-5 lb SA policy that was initially set for the NYPD (I believe) is no longer applicable. They should enhance the trigger pulls of their various revolvers for the new consumer base especially since these guns are priced at a substantial premium over strikers.
Colt has done wonders with its new Cobra series and if they can make a 9 lb DA/3.-5-4 lb SA pull feel terrific, I would think Smith could (and should) also. Just my two cents.
