Moisin nagant 762.54

I doubt I would hit anything smaller than a container ship at 2000 yards with mine, but I would take an iron sighted shot with these old eyes at 200 for sure...I like my M 44....

friend of mine hunts exclusively with his. there are also newer "accurized" synthetic stocks available for them but who would want to ruin that beautiful wood?

I've sold about half of mine, but probably still have close to a couple dozen. The carbines and the Finn M39s are my favorite. You can make a strong argument for the case that they're the guns that won WWII....at least the war in Europe. My truck gun is a refinished 1943 Izhevsk M38 carbine with a scout-mount 2X scope, original issue sling, and a Farm Fleet slip-on recoil pad. I stocked up heavily on Czech, Yugo and Hungarian ammo back in the $39/can days and have more than enough to deal with TEOTWAWKI.

I machine and sell front sight pushers for several models of the Mosin's, and own several 91/30's as well as a couple of Chinese Type 53's, which were clones of the M44 but manufactured by the Chinese after they procured the machinery from Russia. Right now the 91/30's are still very affordable, especially if you have a C&R FFL. Classic Arms offerings start at $75 each if you buy a crate of them, or $79.99 on up for individual firearms. My first one was from them and I was very pleasantly surprised at the condition.

I just found a local gun shop that sells 91/30's for $109 plus tax, same price for either a hex or round receiver, so I think my collection is about to grow a bit...

M-N's can be a hoot. Kind of cheap to buy, kind of cheap to shoot. My M44 kicks like a mule, but it's nothing but fun.

Sometimes I'm tempted to buy an empty Mosin crate, and fill it with M39s, just for the coolness of the display.

The LGS had hundreds of the rifles at $100 per unit (mine is a matching S/N 1932-ish with hex receiver, sling, bayonet and cleaning kit). They then sold the crates for something like $50 each.

In central Ohio, ammo runs about $7/20 rounds - less when you can find it in bulk.

Fun gun. When I'm carting it around I feel like I should be wearing a coon skin cap!:p
