I have a significant quantity of moly coated Sierra 55 gr bullets. What do you think of shooting moly bullets in an AR. I am concerned about the moly going into the gas system. I have only used moly bullets in a bolt gun and that was a number of years ago. I now only own ARs and I would really like to use up these bullets. Do you think the moly will cause any problem?

I bought a bunch of moly coated bullets dirt cheap and have shot over 1000 in my AR w/out any issues.

Interesting question.

I've shot a lot of moly bullets but not through a gas system. I would think that there isn't much shedding of the coating on the bullets once the bore is "seasoned".

I'm going to see what input you get from other folks and learn something hopefully.

Regards,

Hobie

If you are really worried, you can always tumble the moly off. If that doesn't sound good to you I would be willing to test a few hundred of them in my AR for you.:D

I really appreciate the offer but I'm running my own test program. Will let you know in a couple of years.
Thanks anyway.

Sir, a lot of high power competitors (and these guys shoot a lot) run moly'd bullets in their ARs. I never ran them in mine, but my understanding is that the gas system presents no problems.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.
