Moon Clip Loader 45 acp

Hello,

My hand strength has declined with my age and I am bending the clips a bit loading them because I hold the clip and press down to load the bullet. The result is I struggle loading the gun because rounds don't line up well with the cylinder.

Have seen a couple pics online of sturdy looking clip loaders, any recommendations for the easiest to use of these for older hands?

A fellow did show me a technique this weekend that may help me...holding 2 of the rounds at the top and 2 at the bottom of the clip - to form a sort of square when you look at the rounds. Then line up the moon clip with 2 holes on the cylinder and it just drops in easily. He shoots speed competitions so he's learned techniques for speed.

Do you have to have the metal ones? I shoot recreationally and switched over to the fiber moon clips and they are very easy on the fingers to put the bullets in and super easy to remove the empty casings!

Just take a look at EZ Moonclips, Dennis is the contact and is very helpful. I have used these for a year now and none are getting loose on me or have torn, they are kind on your fingers and hands, I promise!

If you are able to "bend" the clips, your hand strength hasn't declined at all. I put the cartridge on a table and push the clip on to it. Getting them out of the clip is much harder.

I just now made my own! (for a .357 / .38 8-shot, that is...)

I'm actually quite proud of myself, cause I'm utterly useless when it comes to making something ...

Found some thick piece of scrap aluminium... shaped it a bit... drilled a few holes, and there ya go... cost me nothing except for a bit of time....

plus 1 on the BMT....very expensive ($100 shipped) but I saw one at the range the other day and I've got one on the way.

So fast I couldn't believe it! The rounds were also lined up perfectly, no straightening out by fingers to load in the gun.

Load the moon clip on the handle, place 6 rounds in the tray, turn the handle and you're loaded!. Flip the fully loaded (or fired) moon clip on the other side, turn the handle (quick or slow as you like)....bingo.... totally de-mooned. No damage to brass or loaded rounds.

Yea......it does beat up a Benjamin pretty bad, but I'm thinking (at least for me) less time mooning/demooning = more shootin time!

BMT is the best, and most expensive, but I've forgotten how much I paid for it. With five revolvers in 45acp that are shot often, the ease and convenience far outweigh the price. Great for loading and unloading the clips, and no bent ones.

The Mooncliptool is simple to use, not too expensive and makes loading & unloading moon clips very easy.

A pipe with a ledge cut in it to demoon.
A set of small channel lock [water pump] pliers to install.
Cut a slit in the bottom jaw if you have a problem holding the clip

For a "target revolver", I use RIMZ poly clips, available from Brownells, much easier to load/unload, no tool needed. Never broke one of those clips yet in years of use.
For self defense, I would still use the metal ones, but my model 25-2 is just for targets.

I have several, have given one to each of my sons and can't say enough
good about how easily they operate and the quality of the result.
"BMT" = Better Mouse Trap and it truly is.

Concur with the recommendations for the Deluxe Moonclip tool. It does an outstanding job of loading the moon clips and taking the cartridges cases or loaded rounds back out of the clips. I use it for my S&W 625 and I love it.

The BMT seems ridiculously expensive when you look at it, but it works amazingly well. If you do just a bit of shooting with moonclips, it may be overkill, but if you do a lot, it's the best $$ you could spend.
