I got a beautiful 627-5 for Christmas from my wonderful wife.
Looking to use it for uspsa. What is the best moon clip loader?
New to moon clipped guns.
Thanks

I use what I believe is the original tool, from Mooncliptool.com. There are a host of tools available now, including from Revolver Supply and BMT. It looks like the newest BMT tool is the fastest and easiest, but also most expensive. Worth looking at the demo You Tubes to see what one you like.

I recently picked up a M610 that requires moon clips. After looking through videos and price checks. I decided on the BMT. Pricing was very near other brands. And it looked like a well thought out design. Received it a couple of days ago. It is very well made, super easy to use, and very quick to load and unload the moon clips.
They are caliber specific. If you only need for 1 caliber the price is good and tough to beat the performance. Multi calibers would get a bit pricey but I don't see any of the others doing a better job. Some are adaptable with attachments to switch calibers but they looked like I would take a lot longer to load up a days worth of shooting clips.

I first got the screwdriver type demooner thinking I could load them by hand. No way so I got the moonclip tool it works fine but the demooning part on the end wore out after a while so to demoon I use the 1st tool I bought. I only do 45acp so when what I have breaks I will get the BMT.

On the 9mm & 38 super I just load the moons with my fingers. On the .45 I can usually easily load all but the last round with my fingers then use a pair of modified duck bill needle nose pliers to load (snap in) the last round.

To de-moon I simply use a homemade notched thin wall pipe with ID to match the brass OD (quick, simple, & cheap)

Buy the BMT and don't look back. You'll forget about the price after you use it. It is by far the best one for loading AND unloading the moon-clips. I have five revolvers in 45acp and after using the BMT extensively, it is hands down the best. BTW, after shooting a revolver that uses moon-clips, you'll wonder why all revolver weren't designed to use them.

For 45 ACP the best mooner is a 6-8" chunk of 9/16" hex shaft; cost =0. Just put the rounds on the bench and roll the clip over them using the shaft though the center. If your bench is slick just use yesterday's newspaper. For demooning use a steel-shafted golf club which can be had for a dollar at thrift stores. Cut it off at the smallest step that will slip over the shell case then cut about 2/3 of the circumference about a 1/4" shorter to create a step. Just slip the case in the end and give it a twist; the empty will drop into the handle. Mine will hold 12+ cases so 2 clips can be stripped before dumping them. The biggest challenge with your 627 will be finding a shaft that will fit the the center hole of the 8 round clip. The golf club demooner will work just fine.

The BMT looks awesome, but $100 per caliber is out of line for me. I use the Original Moon Clip Tool like pictured above and it works great and is plenty fast for me. And (2) calibers for 1/2 the price of a single BMT is more in my budget.

I have BMT loaders as well. Expensive, but this is another case where sometimes you get what you pay for. Buy and forget.

I just have the .45 ACP Brownell's stripper tool, as I seem to do pretty good a loading up, and it's not like I'm loading a dozen of them. I can see the day in the future though when I'll need some help. Getting the empty shells out requires the tool, as far as I'm concerned.
