In another thread I asked about getting either a 325 TR or a 327 TRR8. While the 325 requires moon clips, for the 327 it is optional. In looking at various vendors for moon clips for the 327 (like TK Custom) there is a variance in thickness of the clips depending upon the type of brass/ammo used for the bullet.

How much difference does it really make? Does the TRR8 come with some moon clips and if so what is the thickness of the these?

Thanks for any feedback!

IIRC, there are clips that fit Remington and Federal, and perhaps none actually fit Winchester ammo. The clips that came with my 627 PC weren't marked and I had to fiddle around and see what worked with them.
Moonclips for rimmed cases are a pain and I only have mine loaded up for carry/defensive situations. Otherwise I don't bother with them.
Others have said they work well with rimless(auto) cases, and its best even then to buy one of those loading assist tools since you HAVE to use the moons.

They give you 2 moonclips in a little ziploc with a green sticker. (On one , i got three) the factory moonclips sometimes have a little mark "tk" also. They should be .025" thick.

The 627 and 327 use the same clips. Midwayusa sells these ranch products that work really well and are competitive in price.

If you're not shooting competitively you don't need to worry much about matching brass to moonclips - stick with the cheap ranch products ones, they'll work with just about everything. TK makes the ones that come with at least some of the guns and can recommend what ones you can get that will work with the broadest variety of brass.

If you're shooting competitively you'll want moonclips that match your brass to get the fastest possible reloads.

Contact revolver supply co- they sell all kinds of moonclip supplies and can best answer your Qs.

But essentially, they come in 3 thicknesses, .020, .022,.025 as there is no industry standard for that part of the casing , unlike semi auto cases.

While TK custom and those sold in Dillion free press are quality, they are expensive and should be restricted to Remington cases, or those similar.

Again, highly recommend revolver supply company. Good folks there.
