Moon clips hard to load into cylinder question

I just bought it Friday and picked it up yesterday. I've not had a chance to take it to the range yet. I guess I could send it back, but really didn't want to wait a month or two for them to get it back to me. It probably doesn't matter too much because I can't use it until I get a holster anyway. I'll just carry something else.

I have the 327pc snubbie.

When I first tried loading the rounds in I was using my personal defense ammo with the S&W clips. It was extremely difficult to get the rounds in.

Then I tried my Federal round nose ammo with the same moon clip and they fell right in, I am assuming because they are round nose.

To get my Speer Gold dot ammo, which is the short barrel variety, to load I bought the Hearthco moon clips. Now, because the rounds fit in the clip tighter, they drop right in.

The lesson is, all moon clips are not created equal, and not all ammo loads the same.

It has been my experience that Winchester .38Spcl and 357Mag brass are the most difficult to fit into clips. Federal, Remington and Starline are the easiest to fit into 8-shot clips. S&W clips may be made by Ranch Products and could be stamped vs. Wish that RIMZ made 8-shot clips.

that DOES look like some kind of problem in the star extractor alignment. Great photos!!

And FWIT, today I was using my 627 V8 at the range. 158 RNL 38 casings worked pretty good; 158 SWC 38 casings was more difficult and required a bit of jiggling around.

Plus I had a couple of slightly non-centered in the moonclip that got by my prior inspection.

Sometimes I just shoot without the clips to see if I can still do it. Yup. No problem.

RIMZ doesn't have fiber clips out yet AFAIK.

And I read one guy recommending the really stiff metal clips, but they were very spendy. I have forgotten the link there in any case.

Good luck on your 327. I've wanted one for years.

I have become a big fan of moonclips.

The 610-3 was my intro to rimmed models, and I really like using the things, the 10 mm reguardless of case type or brand seem to even suck in the LSWC-HP just fine and the JHP's are so easy and fast as to be easy done in the dark.

The advantage of round nose and truncated cone bullets has already been mentioned. I would add that over-crimped brass, bullets with diameters ? cylinder throat diameter, and thick brass coupled with bullets close to maximum may create inference. These conditions create few problems when loading single rounds but can produce problems when multiplied by six.
