More .22LR, M63

There's been a lot of love shown lately for .22LR handguns, but mostly for the K-frames. How many of you own a 63? (or 34/43)

What do you use it for; plinking, varmits?

My 63 was NIB in 1980. Recently I aquired 1000 rounds in various brands and configurations and will be taking it to the range tomorrow.

While I can't post pics, I'm betting a lot of you can show them with trick grips, holsters, and the like. Thanks in advance!

I have one that I had to send back to the factory for a little work but it is right as rain now. I bought it because I could not help myself and to use as a trainer for my wife.

My 63 is an all around fun gun. Plinking, walking in the woods, informal target, etc.

These are very fine compact handguns that are probably as accurate as a larger framed revolver. However, the size and minimal weight that makes these guns desireable are the primary contributory factors in making a 63 and similar handguns difficult to hit anything with, particularly fo those shooters who seldom fire a handgun. These are certainly not the best revolvers for beginners.Using a benchrest, find an accurate .22 LR ammo, then practice a lot offhand using proper (consistent) techniques. It's unlikely you'll be disappointed.

They are fine little guns. I shoot the k frames a little better. I have owned three or four of them in the past and would not hesitate to buy another one that is priced right. I can't keep from selling/trading them away. I'm out of control.

Haven't shot this one in 20 years. 17 gets all the action, grips are too small on the 63.

Got one shortly after they came out (1979?) but the chambers were quite rough and extraction difficult. Probably should have sent it in but traded it off. Later on I got an I framed Kit which my daughter now has and likes. I used it to teach my DIL and it was perfect for that; she had small hands and limited grip strength. They do have their place.

I always liked the 2" Kits but so far don't have one.

I have a 5" Model 63-4 that I like a great deal. It's primary use is plinking; secondary is yard varmints.

In the last ten years I've bought a four inch Model 63 or a nickle 34 for each of my nine grandchildren. The two year old doesn't shoot yet, but the rest love them. Haven't bought one in three years, but I have a couple of extras put back.

Bought one as a trainer gun for women with small hands; also use it to sharpen my DA shooting skills so that I can shoot better with my carry piece. If the last time at the range was not a fluke, I'm shooting the 63 better than the 18 now.

Nah... not us...

I sometimes use this to teach new students (NRA classes), and take it plinking often. Factory engraved, Eagle Sambar Stag grips. The knife if one I made with ivory scales.

I've got a few 22lr revolvers. When I take my 10 year old granddaughter to the range she will shoot my Mod 34 and I will shoot the Mod 18. She has a lot of fun with the 34.

I have both a 34 and a 63.Both are 2" inch guns.Mine are used almost daily.Uses for mine are for running traplines,fishing companion,camping gun,carry it hunting for small game and general plinking.

Those are Herrett's Shooting Stars and I like them a lot. I got them at the same time I ordered the 34, which is a round butt.

I used to read about Steve Herrett a lot and was pretty excited to trace around my paw on an order form, mail it to Steve and wait for my "custom" grips.

Herrett's Grips!

Since you mentioned 34s, here's mine. Had it since the late 70s. It's been on numerous motorcycle adventures, Elk hunts, cattle drives and ATV excursions.

Like you, I love those Herrett's grips! And that's why a few years ago I ordered a few sets of them for my Ruger Speed-Sixes and for my Model 63(no dash#)! For my 63, I also have a set of Hogue and the same for Badger.

One thing you may have noticed with the pictures here is the larger grips on most of them. The factory grips are really too small for most people, and adding a Tyler T grip helps, but larger grips are a big advantage to being able to shoot them well. I seem to be able to shoot my 63 as well as my Mod. 17.

I have a few J 22s,including a 63.Haven't tried any of them-they're still new,unfired.I really like K22s,but I don't think I can let the Js go either.

I have two Model 63s for new shooters. I personally prefer a K-frame .22 but my students seem to like the J-frame guns. I have Pachmayrs on one and a set of larger S&W factory stocks on the other. I also have a 2" Model 34 that sometimes comes to class as a training gun for folks planning to buy a J-frame .38 .

I don't have one of those sweet little J frame .22s but I do have an I frame .22 and just love it, all I really use it for is plinking and teaching young first time shooters. Just this afternoon it was used as a teaching tool for a first time shooter, buy the end of the day he was shooting the K38.
