Early 1920s .38 Military & Police Square Butt. Probably shipped c. 1924 or so - it can vary a bit.

It looks like someone filed down the front sight. The stocks are postwar Magna style - from the 1946-1953 period.

SN 4277xx would suggest 1922-23 shipment. Closest M&P SN I have listed is 4274xx shipping in 12/22. As noted, the front sight has been messed with and grips are not original.

Thanks JP@AK and DWalt for the information. I am not sure that I like you telling me that the gun is not original and has been messed with! Just kidding, I want to know the truth. It helps me evaluate them.
