More News from a disarmed country

More reports of violence north of the border directly related to cartel warfare. The Zeta cartel has a strong distribution center in Austin and the mules and soldiers that enter this country do so illegally in many cases.
Both the Zeta and Gulf cartels use terminology like "the border will move north". They are not only in a war for territory against one another, they seek to control ranches and towns in the U.S.

We citizens who live in this area must be able to defend ourselves. The lesson of Mexico is that a disarmed people become subjects to not only a bad government, but to criminal organisations. Citizens are "First Responders" in many cases, as LEO is stretched thin and getting thinner.

I have friends working in the oil patch down by the border. They think it is getting more dangerous. Some, against company policy, are carrying concealed, all a keeping a firearm in their truck. The State of Texas has instituted a small fleet of gunboats, because things have gotten so bad, and DHS isn't doing it's job. The troubles on our southern border are no laughing matter.

And then you are wondering why our taxes are used to buy millions of bullets...

I feel like there is a massive clean up required on the border to put the cartels back into Mexico:rolleyes:

The "linked to" article doesn't seem to indicate that, as DHS is reducing the number of agents, and certainly aren't bolstering their ammo supplies. No, homeland security is being left to the Homeowners. But I could sure be wrong, I'd like to hope there may be an effort to confront the incursion of our southern border, but I remain skeptical.

DHS is doing exactly what they are being ordered to do. Currently the Border Patrol's union is suing the Justice Dept over the treatment of BP officers doing what they are constitutionally mandated to do, uphold the law. Maybe when a 'dirty bomb' goes off in the middle of Houston, people will wake up. Until then, our borders are a sieve and every terrorist in the world knows it.

Way too many anti gunners in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Corpus Christi. The failure of news services to report and the failure of the elected to acknowledge the situation is a big factor in the urban anti gun movement. Many still think cartel weapons come from "gun show loopholes" and there is no cartel activity in their cities. While in Austin last year I saw an article in the Statesman where the mayor and police chief both stated there was no organized cartel activity, no MS 13 activity in the barrio, and that as a "sanctuary city"Austin would be safer. Nobody on the east side that I know agreed with their assessment.
.
I have to add, in fairness, that both the Chief and others have taken a much stronger position. Still, many in the urban populace are in denial.

In the name of "political correctness" some "leaders" would stand by and let the country be overrun. After all, we don't want to offend anyone, now do we? Actually, the threat of being shot, kidnapped, killed, or robbed by someone here illegally as a member of an ongoing criminal enterprise or terrorist organization is pretty offensive to me. Why is it we can be offended, but the ones here illegally can't? I don't mind anyone coming to America through the front door, the right way, and becoming a citizen. I do mind the fact that people from other countries sneak in, commit crimes such as murder, narcotics distribution, robbery, rape, and general mayhem, and somewhere along the line it became OK. At some point, the guys and gals on the front lines trying to protect and defend us became the bad guys, at least in the eyes of the "more enlightened, liberal, and politically correct" leaders. Fortunately for these leaders, most of them are well protected, so they don't have to worry about sleeping with a loaded gun next to their bed in a border town every night because of the imminent threat posed by gangs and narco-terrorists.

When are we going to wake up and start calling this exactly what it is? It's an invasion, involving well funded terrorist groups that are engaged in a coordinated effort to infiltrate, populate, and terrorize this nation by people who aren't American, who don't want to be American, and who hate America for what it stands for....or what it used to stand for! God Bless America, and God help us all!

One of the premises of the right to keep and bear arms is to repel invaders from foreign nations. It's not just about burglers, duck hunting or skeet shooting, or even collecting Smith&Wessons (though that's a biggie). Citizens on The border areas, particularly those which are being actively claimed by factions of foreign populations have a responsibility that many central nation dwellers do not want to acknowledge.

Due to the high murder and kidnapping rates in Mexico, I am considering not returning to Mexico for a vacation, even though I have a long history with Mexico.

My family moved to Guadalajara when I was 10; we stayed there 8 years. My brother and sister still live in Mexico. I have gone back to visit Mexico about once or twice a year for around 40 years.

For the first time in about 40 years, I am considering going elsewhere for Christmas vacation 2013 - solely due to the high murder and kidnapping rates.

I have no idea how to solve Mexico's violence problem, but I do note that before Mexican civilians were disarmed in the late 1960s (when, by my estimate, 1/3 of adult male Mexicans carried a handgun), there was no cartel-related drug violence.

I am forced to conclude that the Mexican population should be allowed to own guns for self defense.
You, like myself, got to see Mexico for what it once was, a beautiful and polite culture. All U.S. citizens should see how things can go bad quickly when disarmament takes place. Though not commonly known, Mexicans are still allowed by law to own a firearm for self defense, but regulation has made ammunition and upgrades nearly impossible to obtain. Most firearms owned by non criminals are single shot shotguns and .22 rifles.
