MORE OF CRAZYPHIL'S EYE CANDY

Just acquired this old Eubanks a couple of weeks ago. If it isn't eye candy,
I don't know what is. Shown with 1873 Cavalry SAA replica. Texas
Gunslinger belt, Bear knife, and Open Road Stetson.

BTW the silver Navajo belt buckle is by Nezzie.

Sorry, for I have been neglecting this "eye candy" thread recently. But not
because I haven't been collecting.

I have collected several Hunters from their 3100 series, and also the 55L
basket weave spring type, shown below on the left, on a Sparks gunbelt.
The knife is a Case, and the hat is my Borsolino.

2nd from left is a Lawrence "Keith" 120, with 7.5" Colt replica, Cowtown
belt, Solingen knife, and my Stetson. Igiveup generously let me buy it
from him for what he paid at a gun show.

3rd from left is a Roy Baker open top pancake, with my Colt's Agent,
James belt, and my Stetson again.

4th from left is an unknown maker stamped LS as posted by Lee Barner.
Shown with my Model 19, on a Keith belt, again with my Stetson. Lee
let me buy it. Then knowing that Igiveup really, really liked it, I let him
buy it from me for the same as I paid Lee. Kinda trying to return the favor.

5th from left is the Viking 60 rescue that I just recently posted. It is shown
with 2" Model 10, on Sparks gunbelt. The knife is a Puma Prince, and the
NRA cap.

Hunter holsters series 1100 are plain. The same holster as 2100 is basket
weave. The same holster carved is 3100. I guess I kinda like the 3100s
because I have 4 of them now. Here are 2 of my most recent acquisitions:

On the left is a size 11 with my model 19 Combat Magnum on a Lawrence
cartridge belt. The knife is a Buck.

On the right is a size 30 with my model 10, on the same Lawrence belt.
The knife is a Marbles Damascus.

After many years of thinking of Hunter Holsters as just cheap junk I have also come to appreciate them. The model 1100 holsters could be found stacked on shelves or on display racks in any reasonably large Gun Shop that I explored in the late 1950's. It was easy to find the right size for your revolver or pistol. But there was no variety. They all looked the same. I soon looked for Buchiemer, Bianchi or Safariland with the many different styles of holsters. But the Hunter 1100s were easy to find exactly the right size for your gun and were reasonably priced. I must admit I still have a few Hunter Holsters.

You are right about Hunter holsters being readily available for most any model handgun.
I recently bought a new, old stock Hunter 1100 still in the box to fit my Ruger Hawkeye .256 Magnum. Not an easy gun to fit, a Blackhawk sized frame but with an 8.5" barrel and only made from 1963-64. I think the holster dates from the early 70's. Cost was under $40 with shipping. My alternative would have been an expensive custom job or a holster for a Blackhawk with an open toe and the barrel sticking out of the bottom.

Oh man. I remember back in the old days in Denver. Gart Brothers Sports Castle down on Broadway. They had tons of Hunters, the "home-town" holster company. I never really liked them all that much, mostly because they were so plain, like Jim said. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have picked up a crate full. But noooo, we were always looking for the latest from Bianchi or Safariland, the "fancy" stuff. I think I have exactly one Hunter 1100 that came with a 3" J-frame I bought 5 or 6 years ago. It's in excellent shape.... maybe I ought to take a second look at it.

Looking at my 1970 Shooters Bible, A Hunter 1100 retailed for $4.75. A Lawrence 1C Challenger model which was their lighter weight leather holster probably designed to compete with Hunter sold for $5.45. Lawrence's higher grade No. 24, in plain, oiled leather retailed for $8.40. Those were all holsters with a snap off design for easy on & off removal from a belt. The Hunter holsters weren't glamorous but they sure were serviceable and I'll bet rode on many of the hips of beginning shooters or those on a budget. And still are in good shape today.

Maybe a bit of a stretch to call these two eye candy, but I think they
are beautiful in their own way. Both meet authentic Tom Threeperson
criteria.

On the left a Bucheimer-Clark Rebel model 98 made for Colt SAA with
5.5" barrel. Shown with my replica with 4.75" barrel. The belt is by
Haugen, the knife is a Sharp's Bowie, and the Stetson is an Open Road.

On the right is a Bucheimer Federal Man model 570 also made for the
Colt SAA with 5.5" barrel. Shown also with my replica. Pro-Rider belt,
Schrade knife, and Boonie hat.
