Saturday evening, my sister and her husband, who live in Texas, were coming home from getting a pizza. They were on a country road, doing about 30-35 mph. David was driving and drinking a soda. He started to choke and, having asthma, he passed out. They were headed toward the left side of the road and Linda grabbed the steering wheel. She couldn't maintain control of the truck and they crashed into a tree with enough force to bring the tree almost up to the windshield. Fortunately, a police car was behind them and was able to radio for an ambulance immediately.
David is beat up from the airbag and the impact against the seatbelt, but Linda really got the brunt of it: She broke her left arm just below the rotator cuff, as well as two ribs. She is also badly bruised all over from the airbag and seatbelt impact.
When my daughter was little, she got the phrase meaning confused and said, "Don't drink and drive. You could spill your drink."
You could choke on it too.
