More Perils of Drinking and Driving

Saturday evening, my sister and her husband, who live in Texas, were coming home from getting a pizza. They were on a country road, doing about 30-35 mph. David was driving and drinking a soda. He started to choke and, having asthma, he passed out. They were headed toward the left side of the road and Linda grabbed the steering wheel. She couldn't maintain control of the truck and they crashed into a tree with enough force to bring the tree almost up to the windshield. Fortunately, a police car was behind them and was able to radio for an ambulance immediately.

David is beat up from the airbag and the impact against the seatbelt, but Linda really got the brunt of it: She broke her left arm just below the rotator cuff, as well as two ribs. She is also badly bruised all over from the airbag and seatbelt impact.

When my daughter was little, she got the phrase meaning confused and said, "Don't drink and drive. You could spill your drink."

You could choke on it too.

Good Lord, Barb! That's awful. I am glad it was not worse. I sure hope your sister and bro in law recover quickly.

Jeez.

Good Lord Barb, Hope everything comes out OK. Rotator cuff injuries are painful. Please let them know they are in our thoughts and prayers.

That is too bad and I am glad for all concerned that it wasn't worse. Head on collision with another car, etc. I wish them a speedy recovery.

Glad they survived with out any worse injuries.

In all honesty, I drink and drive just about every time I get in the truck, coffee that is.

Really sorry to hear that. I wish them both a speedy recovery.

Here in MI, a lady was driving on the freeway when her passenger spilled a big gulp. I think they were in a construction zone, a pretty safe bet in the summer in this state. The lady driving tried to catch the soda and swerved her car, losing control and striking a state trooper who was standing next to a car he stopped for speeding.

The trooper was killed and the lady got sentenced to a couple of years in prison. Really sad for all the families involved what a few seconds of carelessness can do.

Good grief! I hope they heal up okay. That's miserable. Thank goodness that's the extent of their injuries.

Best of wishes for a speedy recovery. Thankfully they were belted though!

I'm glad she made it through as relatively unscathed as she did?
It sounds like you've got another tough nut, take charge type for a Sister!

He might lose his license. I was in the hospital for something and they wheeled a guy in my room for similar. The doc came in and the guy told the doc he also had passed out and left the road. The doc IMMEDIATELY told him he was required to report him and that they would take his license! This was in california about 9 years ago and the guy was old and said he had his wife and a grandkid with him.

Wow Barb! I'm sorry to hear of your sister & brother-in-law's accident.
Positive thoughts for Linda & David and their speedy recovery.
