What was your first Smith and Wesson??

My first S&W was this 4" 586 ND . Purchased from a local LEO that used it on their competitive shooting team. She had the trigger and hammer jeweled and the inner workings tuned to perfection. I gifted it to my younger brother a few years ago when he moved to Florida.

My 66-8 with the 4 inch barrel. I got the S&W revolver bug after that and headed down the rabbit hole with others. This was only five years ago.

In 1963, at the Army Rod and Gun club of Coleman Barracks, in Sandhofen (outside Mannheim) Germany, I bought a Model 53 with inserts and the 22LR cylinder. In 1964, just before I rotated home, I sold it to a close German friend and he kept it for the rest of his life. He passed last year and the Model 53 was sold to one of his friends. I used to shoot it occasionally when I would go over to visit. He reloaded for the Jet and I would send him bullets and brass in the 70's and 80's.

A Model 10-4 (6?) 4" HB, a police trade-in at a small local hardware store in 1978. Tight lockup, good trigger. I wish I still have it.

In 1963 I bought a used 1950 44 Special Target model that someone traded for a 44 magnum. Paid $49. Traded it for a Ruger Super BLackhawk in the wood box in 1964. Traded the SBH that year for a 3.5inch Model 27 which was traded in 1968 when I switched to a BHP which I carried over 40 years. Wish I would have kept them all but could not afford to.

Geez, when could you trade handguns in NY? I didn't start buying until 1977 and as far as I know trading was illegal.
